Xbox Vga Via Component
« on: October 08, 2007, 07:32:00 PM »

Hi there, first xbox scene post here, and hoping you can help me.

I have an original xbox, unmodded, with the HD AV pack (component video, optical audio). I also have a Viewsonic Optiquest Q20wb wide screen monitor with DVI and VGA. I wired up a component to VGA adapter using this wiring guide ttp://www.myhometheater.homestead.com/files/vga-component.jpg

I read that this would not work unless my monitor supported Sync-On-Green, which according to the product users guide it does. However when i connect my xbox, it flickers on and off displaying "Out of range" and the vertical and horizontal refresh rates.
I have tried setting the xbox to Normal, letterbox, and widescreen, and loading a game on all three, with no luck. Viewsonic couldn't help me, since they don't support any type of adapters, however they told me to post my problem here.
Can anyone tell me how I can get this working?

Thanks

normally xboxes do not output RGB required for a vga screen. so even if you made a cable to connect it to a vga screen, it is still outputting component video.
what you need is to either mod your xbox and get a VGA bios, this will give you RGB which will work with your sync-on-green screen. or you can buy whats called a transcoder, which turns the component into RGB.

you won't be able to use xbox live with any sort of modified bios including a vga bios

you can simply plug your component cables into this and get vga out:

its a transcoder like yaywoop mentioned

this one comes highly recommended
