Clock Battery Backup
« on: July 20, 2003, 08:37:00 PM »

ok i wanna know if anyone has heard or tried something like this, for example when you unplug your pc it has a battery back up so that all your time and calender setup doesnt re set, is this a possibility for the xbox, and all the peeps that are having trouboe with this "thorn in their foot" i mean this might be possible, kinda so when you unplug your box, it would have a switch on it turning on the battery so that your clock dont reset and mess up your box.

any ideas or suggestions welcome, just triying to iron out this shity ass anoyance of a problem !!

I would try it but I am leery with hooking up a lithium battery to random points on my mobo.

We need one of these devs (who have 10 xboxes for hacking) to try it  laugh.gif

Yeah that would be nice since they can afford to lose one.  I'm not even sure about what place on the MB to put the battery. unsure.gif

The xbox does not use a real time clock so the current draw is too high for a lithium battery. This is why an "expensive" capacitor is used. In order to use a battery there charging circuit must be disabled and the battery would only last a week at most.

seriously why dont you just buy a better capacitor...?

I repair aracde machines and nearly all the new machines use capacitors for backup... typically they're 1Farad 5.5Volt caps you can find them through digikey. they'll last about 2 weeks...

I'm not sure what the xbox uses but I imagine it's a lower Farad raiting if it's only lasting 5 hours (probably .2 farad or something)

In the OG post, the guy says something about messing up the xbox. I know its a pain in the ass  and annoying, but how can it mess anything up to have the time changed?

Thanx if anyone has an answer so I can be careful
