Some Video Standard Questions
« on: May 31, 2007, 06:29:00 AM »

It is very simple to use Enighmas video converter. Just boot up the program. Press B for Pal or A for Ntsc (or was it vice versa? You'll see it on the screen anyhow), if you set your Xbox to NTSC it will stay that way until you change it back to PAL.

On your second question I have no definite answer, but all games I've tried works in NTSC... and some game should not work (eventhough I find it higly unlikely)... I think in XBMC you could change that game to boot in PAL...

Thanks for that. I think I guessed that I would have to suck it and see as to which games will work. I find it hard to believe that games producers would limit their game to one standard but I do recall reading the requirements of at least one game that said PAL is required.

Unfortunately being anywhere other than in the Americas or Japan (NTSC countries) sucks as far as HD xbox gaming goes.

As far as I've seen when looking at game covers there is no 480p, 720p or 1080i features in any PAL games, only on NTSC ones.

You can do as stated above and switch your xbox to NTSC and enable these modes in the dashboard once you have a HD cable plugged in, but as far as playing games you've backed-up from PAL discs in Hi-Def, I'm not sure.

If this is the case you may may find that the games only run in 480i.
To get them in Hi-def you will need to download yourself an NTSC backup of your games.

I don't have a HD ready screen yet other than a 21" monitor, but I need to get my VGA mod up and running or make the Component to VGA transcoder I've been designing before I can use it.

I hope I'm wrong about the HD limitation with PAL games as I will be facing the same problems as you as soon as I do get onto HD.

You mean so you don't have to change the bios and have games go green (or if you have a 1.6 xbox like me, you can do it period) to play the box on the PC?  biggrin.gif I have a cheapo thing to do it but I'd really like to have high def of some sort on my monitor. Let everyone know if you build it, make a tut or something.

"I hope so too. I will let you know. I have ordered the Hi Def pack (£29) & have changed to NTSC in readyness. All the games I have tried work ok but wether I can get them to work in HD is a different matter."

It works !!!

Plugged in Hi Def Cable, set vidio to NTSC
In MS Dash hi def options appeared - set this to 720p

Tried out my UK (PAL I presume) games and all of the ones I tried (about 6) worked. All of them showed better quality some more exceptional than others. I suppose it depends on how the game was written.
