Video Scanlines & Pink / Green Lines
« on: May 30, 2007, 08:26:00 PM »

I'm completely blank on this, so anything is help.

The only thing I can think of is to upgrade my BIOS to iND-BiOS 5003, but I don't exactly know if that's even safe to begin with?

Please help. sad.gif

Pictures.

In games, this is what I get:

Intro to TH8 - http://img234.images...imgp2543ar3.jpg
Close up - http://img483.images...imgp2544tv9.jpg
Game Play - http://img483.images...imgp2546xj7.jpg (sorry for blurriness, camera sucks up-close)

The following picture didn't capture what I wanted it to, it missed the scanlines.
Though the scanlines look like the little lines as seen on the top part of the "X", just more seen off camera and pink/green-ish outlines (ghosting?). (you can kind of see on the right shine part of the "X")

Also, notice how blurry "Microsoft" is.  Yes the camera made it more blurry, but it is still very blurry.

After much time spent on this, I am coming to the conclusion that I need to set the HD settings in my MS dashboard. Which I do not have.

I have noticed that SlaYer's EvoX Auto-Installer v2.7 installs also a MS dashboard.  However I do not know if this is softmod friendly.  If I were to launch this auto-installer on my current softmodded xbox, would it go through? Last thing I want is to have it collapse on me now.

DO NOT run Slayer's on a softmodded XBOX. You will brick your XBOX.

That being said though, the problem is that you have a PAL XBOX. You need to use the Enigmah PAL/NTSC Selector disc to switch your XBOX from being a PAL version to an NTSC version, because HDTV cables do not work with PAL XBOXes.

You will also need to enable the HDTV settings in your Microsoft Dashboard. (480p, 720p, 1080i)

The Microsoft Dashboard is the ONLY application on the XBOX that allows you to enable the HDTV settings. UnleashX, Evox, etc. do not allow you to do this.

The only exception would be the most recent release of XBMC, which also allows you to enable the HDTV settings too.

Without the HDTV settings enabled, your XBOX will only output 480i, which your TV probably doesn't like...

They basically tell UnleashX what resolution to run itself at, as long as the same settings are enabled in the Microsoft Dashboard.

Meaning: MS Dash says 480p is available (by being enabled) so the 480p option in UnleashX will take effect.

Got MS dash from extracted Slayers.  Dashboard works fine, got rid of the pink & green lines.
Also made the resolution better but still looks better on a normal TV with a composite cable.

There is still this pink wave noise. I use to get this everywhere but games, and instead in games those big lines, but now I am getting this intead, in games also:

http://img242.images...imgp2562hh3.jpg
It's hard to capture with a camera, they are most seen in dark backgrounds (that's why the picture is taken when UnleashX is in screensaver)

Oh and I still have those little pink/green lines in menus. In games I'm not sure as I can't see them. (on MS dash the lines are vertical, on UnleashX they are horizontal)
Something like this, except seen a bit better and more colorfull: http://img241.images...imgp2557tp6.jpg

No way is this video in PAL for sure, so I have no idea.
How clear and how great of a resolution am I supposed to see anyways? I'm guessing I should at least see a claer image without any noise, even if it is not sharp enough.

Frosty, would this be something I could try: http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=603901

Well, you are using a softmod, and my VGA patchers are meant for Modchips...

If you wanted to, I could provide you with a temporary method of using VGA, that wouldn't harm anything, it would be 100% safe for your mod. Your TV however, might not like it...

But as far as the clarity/resolution, it SHOULD be rediculously awesome. HDTV cables improve the picture on the XBOX 200%, so i'm thinking the problem could either be the cable, or your TV...

How do you have the cables wired? I assume you have the RGB cables connected in the correct spots, right?

So wait, you are wiring your Component connections through the DVI port on your monitor?

That won't work...

But, i'm willing to bet that if you use a VGA setup, it will.

If you want to try my 'temporary VGA enabler', PM me. I assure you it will not hurt your monitor.

Yes, the key is that it is DVI-I, not DVI-D.

DVI-I is digital AND analog. In this case, I'm just using the analog.
And like I said, I tested on another monitor through direct component plugs (YPbPr), exact results.

It's a DVI-I to YPbPr cable if that doesn't explain it, it's made for these kinds of things.

I don't have a Component-to-VGA cable so I cannot try, but from my findings it should give exact results as now, and I really don't want to spend a lot of money on cables to try.. I dunno though, if there is nothing else to try than this, I may as well, but still I highly doubt there will be any change.

Make sure your monitor has sync on screen and also u cant just use a cable. u either have to make your own cable with the right stuff. there a tut on how to make one. or you need a hard mod, not a soft mod because 9 times out of 10 it dont work.

Hope this helps.

Ok, got myself a Monster Cable Gamelink 400 X (for only $6.00! biggrin.gif).

Now 720p works perfect!

However..

480p shows lines in dashboards and games.
Here is another thread with a similar unsolved problem: http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=345463

1080i doesn't work at all.
It shows a black screen, with some random dark line in the middle, and the contrast rises every second until the whole screen is white.

My LCD is "1080 P Ready".
Again, my connection is the Monster Cable Gamelink 400 X Component cables, connected to a Component-to-VGA cable, which lead into my 1080p Ready LCD.

Help?

I just got it working thanks to frosty! Hooray.

Turns out it was sort of my monitor.

It says in the manual of my LCD that 1680x1050 is the top resolution for Analog/Digital.
And for YPbPr maximum is 1920x1080p, 1920x1080i is also in that list.

Tried it with my Component to DVI-I cable, works perfect in all three HD res!!! biggrin.gif

Thanks for everyone's help! smile.gif

I have a question though.. What resolution is the startup xbox logo in?
Because I'm still having those weird annoying lines there (like I had in 480p, but much birghter now and seen a lot more, even looks like it has a sort of pinkish and greenish ghosting), but thankfully on that start up xbox logo only.
