Hd Av Pack Problem
« on: May 23, 2007, 12:58:00 PM »

I've had the HD AV pack for a few years and now the blue component cable doesn't work (i'm sure from pulling the damn thing out by the cord). For awhile I could make it work for a few days simply by pushing on the wire, but now it's officially dead. I tried to find a new one to buy at my local gamestop but they dont seem to be selling them anymore.

Does anyone have any experience in fixing these themselves? I am very comfortable with a soldering iron but have no clue as the correct way to go about doing this.

Side notes:
I don't have access to a crimper like the cable guys use.
I do have an extra component cable that I could destroy if splicing is the only option (no clue if the guage of the wire would need to match, etc).

thanks for any info/help beerchug.gif

It is only the blue cable you have a problem with? You could easily solder a new one on if you don't mind destroying the cable. The gauge of the wire will not matter much. Also, one thing I would try is (assuming you have a meter to check the connection) making sure that it is the wire causing the problem. Find the pin for the blue cable (there are plenty of diagrams for this, I can't remember the exact pin you need), and check for a connection between the pin and connector at the end of the cable (if your meter is digital, look for all zeros on a 2k setting, that means absolutely no resistance).
