Vga Cable More Compatible
« on: May 21, 2007, 02:30:00 PM »

Hey is there a way to make the Vga cable with the sync splitter compatible with more moniters. I have a non sync on green moniter at home and i want to be able to use the same cable on a sync on green at school.  But it may not be sync on green.  perhaps if i add switches? to by pass the sync splitter.
I am going to school for computer electronics so feel free to be technical.

I'd rather keep it all in the same cable  i have a good size box that the splitter rests in.

Thank you

The sync-splitting circuit is compatible with both types of monitors, you do not need to 'un-split' the signal.

SOG monitors support both H/V (Sync-splitting) and also SOG signals, so if you build the Sync-splitting circuit, it will work for all monitors.  happy.gif

Thanks for the fast reply.  I have built the circuit.  the reason i asked was another monitor that i have tried it on didn't work. perphaps it is the resistor.  The monitor would flash on and off. and as for the moniter that works     720p is a little dark  and 1080 is ghosted

Yeah, the sync-splitting circuit has been known to be incompatible with some monitors, but usually messing with the resistor fixes the problem.

Have you tried a 470k resistor?

And as for the 720p/1080i issue, that would be caused by either wiring or your monitor simply not liking the widescreen resolutions.

Also, are you 100% sure that your monitor at home is not sync-on-green? Because you could actually wire the circuit incorrectly, and sync-on-green monitors would still work, but non-SOG monitors wouldn't... I've seen this happen many times before by people accidentally wiring the LM1881N chip backwards...

That is interesting   the  monitor that works is quite a few years older than the one that doesn't so i don't think that its S-O-G.  yes i am using 470k

Have you double-checked you wiring to be sure everything is wired as it should be?
