questions

1, wheres the wire ur using from?

2, home come u soldier a bunch or white wires on the avip?

3, what size is that black box?

4, how did you stick the eletrics down (vga chip risistor and stuff) glue?

5, can i buy one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) send it to the Uk?

6, can you use a SOG montier AND a Non-SOG montier with the extras in there? or you gotta make 2 cables?

Wow, that's pretty sweet. I'm just stuffing it all in shrink tubing... and yeah, what -are- all the white wires for?

mcbeat: The inclusion of the sync separator circuit means that it'll work with both SOG and Non-SOG monitors (SOG monitors can interpret both the separated and combined sync signals.)

Okay, let's see if I can answer all those questions...

1. Old 9-wire PSX Controller Cable (GREAT for VGA, as it already has 9 wires, AND it's shielded.)

2. Two of those wires are used to enable the 2+3 video mode, and the rest are used to combine the Red Ground, Blue Ground, Green Ground, Right Audio Ground, Left Audio Ground, and the cable's shielding so that I can have a common ground for everything. (Since it all just grounds off at the same place in the XBOX itself anyway, I figured there was no point in using excess ground lines.)

3. 2" Tall by 3 1/2" Wide (if you are looking at it from the side)

4. Epoxy.

5. Well, they take forever to make, so I don't do any B/S/T with them... sorry.

6. Yes, when you make an LM1881N-based VGA cable like mine it works with both SOG and Non-SOG monitors.

Frosty, I have a question about the common ground thing: I thought the point of multiple ground lines was so that you could twist them around each individual signal line to reduce crosstalk among them. If you're just connecting them all at one end of the cable, doesn't that introduce the possibility of crosstalk among the signal lines inside the cable, since they don't have any grounds between them?

Of course, I might have no idea what I'm talking about, so feel free to tell me that, too.

Well, yes and no. You see, the shielding in the cable itself shields all the wires anyway, and if you open up a normal VGA cable you will find that the individual wires are not always individually shielded anyway. Also, even without my 'white wires' in the AVIP, those ground lines already meet up at the same place in the XBOX itself. (Those lines are already commonly grounded in the XBOX.) I just grounded them at the AVIP too for good measure.

But, if I did have a cable that had individually shielded wires, I would have used that. The only problem is that those are not usually easy to find, and the are usually pretty large in size. In this case, since the cable is only about a foot and a half long, interference isn't really an issue.

i'v got a soldier iron 50watt now, and some soldeir in a tube , i dont knw where to buy flux in the uk?
i never really soldier wires before , any ideas or help that i could find please post.

question:

1, is it possible to cut the scart off a xbox AVIP(with opitcal out) to scart cable , then use the scart wires
to soldeir striaght on to a vga connection?

I got home right after picking this up and set it up, booted up, (your custom softmod is perfect by the way, start up with power button and it starts up normally, start up with the eject button and it's in VGA mode) enabled the HD rez's and BAM! Absolute perfection! There's not a single flaw, it's better than having it on an HDTV in some ways, more secluded, can sit right up next to it with my headphones on, and because the screen's more compact the rez is even sharper. Tried it on a Viewsonic 17" CRT first and that was the best, 19" WS Viewsonic was hella sweet too but not as good as the CRT of course (doesn't support 1080).

My custom VGA softmod is one that I have designed on my own, using a dual-boot feature. (Power = Normal, Eject = VGA)

My softmod has the following features:

- Based on UDE2 Complete w/Custom Compiled Fonts
- Uses a custom version of NKPatcher v10-vga10 (When the power button is used to turn on the XBOX, it simply boots normally, without VGA. However, if it is powered on with the eject button, it boots up in VGA.)
- Uses ShadowC and ShadowEEPROM (Protects the REAL C drive from being messed with, and protects the EEPROM from corruption.)
- Uses seperate ShadowEEPROMs for VGA and for Normal modes (This means seperate HDTV settings for each mode.)
- Supports F and G drives
- Uses EvolutionX 3935 as the Dashboard (can be changed)
- Includes Microsoft Dashboard 5960
- Includes DVD2XBOX
- Includes DVD Region-X
- Includes newest version of XBMC T3CH
- This VGA softmod is 100% compatible with ALL XBOX applications and games. Everything works 100% in VGA mode.

I have not yet publicly released my softmod, I have only provided it to my local customers here in Utah. If there is enough demand for it online, I might release it.

NOTE: This is a softmod, and does not come in a BIOS form. You need to be running a retail BIOS to use it.
