How To Build A Vga Cable Using A Vga Extension Cable
« on: April 09, 2007, 01:47:00 PM »

hi all,

i'v been reading alot on the vga mod, and have returned once again to see if i can make a vga cable for my
xbox the xbox is a 1.4 version and i tsop'd it 2years back its running a x2 bios

anyway my plan, is to cut a vga extension cables end off, like metioned in other threads
heres a link to a example , http://www.pcconnection.com/ProductDetail?...SourceID=k22350
that links from textbooks guide, thanks

also FrostyTheSnowman, has shown a great thread on how to do this

the only difference trying to work out what cable should be soldiered where, since i'v open the AVIP
and can't see the vga pins i dont know where each wire should go

here's a picture(sorry bad mobile pic)

(IMG:http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i284/tayab/Picture1.jpg)

the vga cable end has been cut-off and i can see the wires that need to be connected to the avip

as in the picture, im am soldering the vga to the avip the guides show the otherway round
is there anyway of knowing which wires are what pins?

theres various colors and more wires then needed

thanks for any help

Every VGA cable has different colored wires. Your going to need a multimeter to find out which pins correspond to which color wires.

NOTE: Since you are going to be going with a Sync-on-Green VGA cable, the only wires you will be needing is the Red, Green, and Blue signal wires, and their grounds. (6 wires total)

Here's a diagram that should help you wire it up to the XBOX once you know which wires are the Red, Green, and Blue signal wires and their grounds in your VGA cable:

"Every VGA cable has different colored wires. Your going to need a multimeter to find out which pins correspond to which color wires."

dam i dont have one , and i never used one before so for me this was a no hope,
then again maybe i shld just buy a vga connecter end, and soldeir that in a box or something

i want to use a avip with optical out on it , i have one that runs to scart, i think the only thing left
is to go buy a vga connection then soldeir the xbox scart cable to that

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

anyway my moniter is a 14inch vusys which shld be able to do 720p assuming SOG (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

however im not sure about running xbmc and msdash in 720p, and xbox games
plp say it will work in 480p not 720p why is that ? i hear theres a patch for this to fix games
i would like to run everything without the green problems and other colors

XBMC supports all HD resolutions, so that should be fine. MSDASH only supports 480, IIRC.

There are patches that allow 480i only games to output 480p, but as far as I know, there are no patches that add 720p support, since that entails using a completely different resolution. Here are the threads you're thinking of:

Only a few games have the green tint problem, but I don't think they can be fixed, since the green tint is caused by the game not resetting the GPU when it is launched. Good thing is, this does not affect the majority of games.

thanks for the replys

"MSDASH only supports 480, IIRC."

so you can NOT view msdash in vga cable mod?

i believe the fix is to turn off IGR in game reset , if using evox dashboard not sure about the bios

question

how does some who knows nothing about hex editing pacth the games to 480p?
