Component Or Vga?

When you are using an LCD TV that supports both VGA and Component, you will find that the overall picture will not be very different between them. Especially if you are using an X2VGA2, or any other type of 'signal converter' which tend to degrade the signal a bit.  sad.gif

Personally, I would just go with a really nice, well-shielded component cable. (Monster, or official Microsoft cables)

VGA is usually only a good option if you are using a real computer monitor. More often than not, you would just be wasting time and money to connect your XBOX to the VGA port on an HDTV, as there would be very little difference in quality between Component and VGA on an HDTV.

What about someone like myself, who has an HDTV with VGA/DVI-D ports? Would it be worth my time to make a VGA cable, when I already have a nice set of Monster Component Cables?
I'm very partial to image quality, and if it's noticeable, I'll notice it.

Honestly, it really depends on your HDTV's circuitry. Most HDTVs won't have any noticable difference between their VGA inputs and their Component inputs.

Not to mention the fact that you will not run into compatibility problems with component cables, where as VGA is not yet perfect on the XBOX, and does tend to have compatibility issues. (Well, VGA softmods using NKPatcher v10-vga10 really are actually 'perfect' and don't have any compatibility problems, but VGA methods for modchips are not.)

I will have to tell you through my years of both owning, and still using, monster cables as compared to any generic brand you can find online for 1/5 the price, there is no image quality difference.  Or sound quality for that matter.  Although Monster is a nice name, there is no reason to pay the extra price for them.  The only reason I'm still using mine is because they came in a huge set that included s-video, component, hdmi, and 2 fiber optic cables along with a surge protecter.

I know thats not directly related to either vga or component but I thought I would put that out there before people thought they had to buy Monster to get the best quality.

I also paid like $8 for a brand new set on Ebay, and properly shielded cables using quality components make a HUGE difference when you have 10+ consoles alone in your entertainment center, not to mention numerous other electronics throughout your living room alone.
The simple act of switching from a cheap S-Video cable from my PC's video card, to a high quality gold plated cable was overwhelmingly noticeable.
All depends on your environment, and your perception.
