Vga Help ? Evox Black Screen ?
« on: January 29, 2007, 08:44:00 AM »

What 'mode' did you use when you built your VGA cable? Did you use 1+3, or 2+3? (2+3 is the correct way.)

This is the way the cable needs to be built: (I'm pretty sure that you used the 1+3 mode, so all you have to is switch the 'mode wires' to the 2+3 mode (light blue wires in the diagram), and your cable should work fine.)

NOTE: Your HDTV modes NEED to be turned on for my VGA patcher to work.  happy.gif

Well, I use Evox all the time on my personal XBOXes, so I know it works just fine with VGA. Just make sure your 480p, 720p, and 1080i settings are turned on, otherwise Evox won't show up. (Evox displays in 480p if it is turned on in the Microsoft Dashboard.)

NOTE: If you cannot see the HD options, then the cable is in the 1+3 mode, and you will need to change it to 2+3.

Once again, 1+3 is not compatible with my VGA patcher, and it will not work.

You need to use 2+3 or else the cable will not work properly, and in order to use 2+3 you also need your HD modes enabled. And those HD modes will only become available when a 2+3 cable is plugged in, not a 1+3. 1+3 does not work with HDTV.

So what you need to do is make your cable into a 2+3 cable, and then you need to go into the Microsoft Dashboard WHILE the 2+3 VGA cable is plugged in, then you will be able to enable the HDTV modes. If you use the 2+3 cable and you do not get a picture in the Microsoft Dashboard, all you need to do is hold down the L and R triggers and then click down both thumb sticks, and then your picture will show up and you can enable your HDTV modes.  happy.gif

Well, the 'brightness' problem is actually your HDTV not liking the VGA signal that it is receiving.

When you use a BIOS that has been patched with my VGA patcher, you can only use a VGA cable with it, because HDTV cables/TVs do not work properly with VGA BIOSes. To fix this, I recommend that you use a Dual-BIOS setup, if you have a dual-bank modchip, or a 1MB TSOP, consisting of one VGA BIOS, and the other being a normal BIOS.

But, aside from all that, i'm glad you got it working! biggrin.gif
