Vga Adapter + Linux (gentoox)
« on: January 26, 2007, 06:22:00 PM »

You didn't accidentally do a Native installation perhaps did you?  The xbvset shouldn't screw with anything outside of Linux, but I am somewhat new to Gentoox, so I don't know everything.  However, I have done installations on the E drive, F drive, and a native installation, and the e and f drive didn't affect anything at all, no matter how I adjusted stuff in xbvset, which I did mess with a lot since i was getting the same green tint you're getting.  The only way I ended up getting rid of the green tint was swapping to a v1.0 motherboard.  I talked to lots of people including shallax himself, and nobody knew how to fix the tint problem.

Thanks for the reply.

If i plug the xbox into a standard TV with the composite video cable everything works fine. Its only the VGA side of things which have problems.

When I built the VGA cable i created 3 switches to change between the video modes:
  • Switch 1  -  Pins 9 and 10
  • Switch 2  -  Pins 11 and 12
  • Switch 3  -  Pins 13 and 14

Before the problem started i was running fine with switch 2 and 3 on. Now i get absolutley bothing with 2 and 3, but a small number of things eg. the M8+ loading screen, work with pin 1 and 3.

This seems really strange as i cant even get evox to display in 480p.

As a side note, using pin 1 and 3 removed the green tint from Gentoox.

Somehow, your EEPROM has been changed. AFAIK, I don't think Linux would have done this, but I could be wrong. In any case, you will need to re-enable your HD settings in your Microsoft Dashboard to get your VGA back.

Also, just as a side note:

1+3 = Old school VGA mode (All versions of Linux and some older VGA BIOSes use this mode.)

2+3 = HDTV mode (This mode is used by all of my VGA patchers, and most other newer VGA BIOSes.)

Hope that helps.  happy.gif

Actually, you need to hold down both triggers and then click down both sticks to enable 480p in the Microsoft Dashboard. Also note though, that you need the newest version of the Microsoft Dashboard in order to do this trick.  happy.gif
