Video Settings Won't Save On My Xbox!
« on: January 12, 2007, 08:56:00 AM »

This is because you do not have a Shadow EEPROM file on your hard drive. You need a Shadow EEPROM file because you are running NKPatcher-based softmod, and NKPatcher protects the EEPROM and C drive from being written by re-directing 'reads' and 'writes' to these into files.

The solution is to dump your EEPROM.bin file using Evox, and then put that file into the 'e:\shadowc' directory.

Oh, wait, you are using NDURE aren't you?

Then in that case you need to copy the 'eeprom.bin' file from e:\dash\backup over to the c:\shadowc folder.

But in order to copy it to the REAL 'C' drive (NDURE creates a FAKE 'C' drive to protect the REAL 'C' drive), you will need to use the NDURE Toolset to unlock your REAL 'C' drive.

-or-

I have a file that will temporarily unlock your REAL 'C' drive so that you can put that file in the correct place, and as soon as you reboot your XBOX it will be locked again.

But no, since you have probably never done this before, you wont loose any settings, because any video/audio settings will not save anyway without this file. (The placement of the 'eeprom.bin' file is supposed to be done while you are 'building' your NDURE softmod. It is one of the first steps.)

Did you move the eeprom.bin file into the 'e:\shadowc' directory?

When you place the 'eeprom.bin' file in the 'e:\shadowc' directory, your softmod will recognize that it is there, and it will become the new location of your EEPROM. Meaning, ALL EEPROM reads/writes are redirected to that file instead of your REAL EEPROM chip. The reason why you cannot delete/rename/move it is because it is now going to be in use 24/7 when your XBOX is powered on. If you deleted it, your XBOX would not be able to read/write to the fake EEPROM file, and it would probably freak out. So, basically, your softmod has 'locked down' that file, and in order to delete/rename/move the file you need to boot from an exploitable game, not your hard drive, and then you should be able to remove it.

The 'Shadow EEPROM' was created to protect the REAL EEPROM from getting corrupted/incorrectly set by games an applications. I recommend that you leave the 'eeprom.bin' file in the 'e:\shadowc' directory for that reason, it's good to have.  happy.gif
