All you'll get through that composite input is 480p (640x480).  You either need to make yourself a VGA cable, or use a HD cable with a VGA Transcoder.

there really shouldn't be any noticeable lag with the yellow connector. but I'm not sure if "lag" is the right word to use here.

Could someone please clarify for me?

Are you sure you can get 480p through composite
I thought composite can only have 480i
I Solved the audio problem
the only problem left is the slight delay, it delays on my other lcd so im guessing it is some settings on my xbox, any ideas what it is?

A few things need to be clarified, first the lag is coming from the signal being scaled from 480i to 480p through composite, not true 480p.  This is what creates the lag, look here for a more in depth reason ->Video Game HDTV/LCD lag

Composite goes up to 480i, even though what your seeing on screen is 480p, that is because of what I said above, your monitor scales it to progressive 480p at 640x480.

Most likely your Dell LCD 19" is 1280x1024, so 1280x720 should be fine at 720p, with little to no lag apparent. Just remember that lag will STILL be there when playing 480p native games.  This is because the actual 480p image must be scaled down from the original number of pixels, which takes precious ms.

Unfortunately if you play any FPS/Rhthym games your best bet is getting an external input box to scale the resolutions, which eliminates most lag.  Look in the AVSForum thread I posted above for the names of these boxes.

I think your Dell 19" has a good chance of having SOG (Sync On Green) chip in it.  So if you want to try something, you can get an Xbox Component cable, then get a VGA->Component cable, and connect the Xbox component cable into the female component on the VGA->Component adaptor. And the VGA side into your VGA input on your computer.  No need to DIY your own VGA cable if this works.

VGA->Component Cable Like this, except you want a VGA->Component Female instead of male like the one being sold.

Of course you will need a VGA BIOS, or NK10Patcher VGA for softmodders.

Good luck mate wink.gif

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

Your correct about 480p will have a bit of lag, and 720p should have no extra lag besides the monitors original 16ms/8ms response time.

To play without using a VGA Bios you will have to use the Nkpatcher 10 and patch it to VGA.  I don't own a softmodded Xbox but the topic is in the stickies if you want to check it out.  You will have to "cold boot" all games you want to play on XBL.

1 more thing , any idea that monitor i listed before has SOG
i looked everywhere but cant find it

Most monitors don't list whether or not they support SOG, but if it is a newer LCD then most likely it will.  Other then trying the monitor out there really isn't much of a way to tell.

However there is a listof monitors that either do or don't work with the VGA hack.  I dont have the link but I'm sure someone knows it!

Edit:  Apparently the softmod for VGA wasn't in the stickies...why I don't know, but here it is -> http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=539878 I don't know if there have been any updates or anything, but it should support all resolutions.

NKPatcher v10-vga10 is by far the BEST VGA solution we have available. It supports 480p, 720p, and 1080i, and it also supports Force480p, AND it uses 'Force GPU Reset' code too, so there are no green screens. It is perfect. The only thing is that the VGA part of NKPatcher is largely un-documented, and none of the 'major' softmod packages have updated their code to take advantage of NKPatcher's VGA support. (Example: NDURE...)

NKPatcher is really the only reason why I still use softmods, because it can do everything that a modchip can do, plus it has perfect VGA support.

I have actually communicated alot with dr oldschool about his VGA code, and my VGA Patcher is heavily based on his work. (Except the code has been modified to support modchips.  happy.gif )

I honestly recommend NKPatcher v10-vga10 for anyone who uses VGA on the XBOX.

Do you have a modchip, or a softmod?

Should that work? I just want to make sure before I go to the trouble of ordering it. I'm pretty positive my screen supports SoG (it's listed here).

modchip
would attaching a hd pack and a component to VGA cable work for sync on green?

Yes, it would work perfectly.

As far as VGA BIOSes go, I recommend using my patcher (VGA Patcher v0.7) on either an X2 or an X3 BIOS. (Depending on your modchip.)
