Any Solution To Games That Turn Green On Frostys Vga Hack
« on: November 27, 2006, 09:30:00 PM »

I use NKPatcher10-vga10 and i have no problem with those "green games". If u use a modchip i suggest u install a Ndure softmod package and then use a NKPatcher10-vga10 as a vga solution.

Unfortuantely, all VGA BIOSes suffer from this problem. (Yoshihiro's, TATX's, and all BIOSes patched with my VGA Patcher...) I am working on a fix for this, and I hope to have one available soon.

Also, NKPatcher v10-vga10 is the only 'flawless' VGA solution at the moment, and it works great. (I use it personally) The only draw-back to NKPatcher v10-vga10 is that it can ONLY be run using a retail BIOS and a softmod. (It's not compatible with modchips...)

You've already amazed me so far Frosty with what you've done with VGA Bios.

Is your XBOX a v1.0, or a v1.1?

If you have the little USB daughterboard sticking up from your motherboard, then you have a v1.0. If you don't have the USB daughterboard, then you have a v1.1.

My 5101 BIOS is only compatible with v1.0 XBOXes, so you might have a v1.1 XBOX.  happy.gif

NOTE: The 'official' 5101 retail BIOS was the BIOS that was normally used on v1.1 XBOXes, so if you have a v1.1 you can always use the 'official' Microsoft one.  happy.gif (There isn't anything really 'special' about my 5101, except for the fact that it has been modified to be compatible with v1.0 XBOXes.)

By the way, everyone can always feel free to PM me about any of my releases, I am always happy to help.

Ahh, I see, so the problem is not with my 5101 BIOS, it's ALL retail BIOSes on your TSOP. I have no idea what would cause that problem, but my best guess would be a bad/corrupted TSOP chip.

As far as the green tint problem goes, the problem is that some games do not reset the GPU code properly everytime they switch video modes. NKPatcher forces the game to reset the GPU code whenever the game switches video modes, but VGA BIOSes and any BIOS patched with my VGA Patcher do not force the game to reset the GPU code when they switch modes, and this results in the GPU going back to it's default settings. (Normal HDTV video)

I am currently working on a fix for this, but it is proving to be very difficult to inject new routines into XBOX BIOS files.  mad.gif

Okay, let's see if I can answer all of your questions:

1. NKPatcher auto-detects your video cable. When your VGA/HDTV cable is connected, it will be VGA. If it detects any other type of cable, the VGA will be disabled and the cable will work normally.

2. Unfortunately, you cannot use PBL while NKPatcher is running.

3. If you wanted to Dual-Boot NKPatcher and a Modchip BIOS, all you would have to do is softmod your XBOX and then when you booted with the retail BIOS NKPatcher would load, and when you booted with your modchip BIOS then the modchip BIOS would simply load the dashboard of your choice.

4. I was not aware that Evox M8+ was incompatible with my patcher, but I would be happy to try and create a custom VGA Evox M8+ for you if you'd like. Just send me a PM with your e-mail address.  happy.gif

5. The problem with retail BIOSes on your v1.0 XBOXes is probably just how you are creating your 1MB BIOS. I recommend combining 4 of my 5101 BIOSes into a 1MB BIOS and trying that. (As long as you join them correctly, they should work fine.)

Could you enlighten me on this? As far as I know, it is possible to run PBL when NKPatcher is used. However, the VGA support will (off course) be wiped from the memory when used, making it useless for that purpose.

Also, isn't it possible to flash a retail 256KB BIOS and a modded 256KB BIOS to a modchip which supports dual-booting? I had the idea that it is possible to boot from the bank with the retail BIOS and to load NKPatcher (with VGA support) using an exploit from a locked HDD. Or am I seeing something wrong here? uhh.gif

Well, AFAIK, PBL cannot be used with NKPatcher. (I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure.)

And yes, AFAIK, you can use a retail BIOS on a dual bank modchip just fine. (As far as I have been told, I do not own a modchip myself.)  happy.gif

I retract my previous statement. PBL does infact work with NKPatcher just fine. biggrin.gif (Checked it myself with a BFM 4981 BIOS patched with my VGA Patcher.)

I already was starting to think that I didn't get a certain aspect of BIOS loaders. Don't scare me like that. wink.gif
