Contrast And Brightness Suck With My Vga Cable
« on: November 04, 2006, 11:13:00 AM »

I'm using the IND bios or whatever, and with my VGA cable the picture is way too washed out. When I turn the brightness and contrast up, it looks horrible. If I leave them down it looks okay but it is way too dark.

Is there a way to fix this?

Your monitor needs more contrast, and not brightness.  But no, there is no way to fix it save get a better monitor.

So do i.

Your monitor is probably just old, and the contrast lvl has decreased.  There is a way to boost your contrast lvls sky high with sony trinitron monitors.  What you need is an interface cable and the winDAS program.  With this you can crank the hell out of the contrast and have as bright as picture as you want.

Another thing to try first is go to your color settings and choose 'expert'.  From there max out your red, green and blue color gains.  THen adjust your red, green and blue color bias's accordingly to the image that suits you best.  That will give you a lot more contrast.

This is not a monitor problem.
If you have lm1881 in your VGA cable than, go to setup (on monitor), find "clamp" and change it to SOG. If you have not lm1881 set it to soc. This is only for Sony Trinitron.

Sory for my english.

Nice 1+ year bump.

And for the record, it is an old monitor tube problem.  But i can also see how the sync chip may cause problems, too.

And what the hell is this "clamp" setting you're referring to?  I see no such setting on both of my sony trinitrons.  Plus your reasoning makes no sense... change to SOG if have a sync separator chip?  The whole purpose of the chip are for those whose monitors do not support SOG.
