Ok, i got something working, still having problems though. The picture looks the same with or without the resistor, i've tried both the 470 and 680...same thing with either 2, or without having one.

You know, it would be helpful to have a just a Phono Plug wire up pins 2 and 7 to it, and plug it in composite to setup the dashboard in black and white (once it goes split screen black and white on a non-progressive tv it's working). i say that because i messed up!!! i did enable the p's and 1080i in the ms dashboard, but in XBMC i left it as NTSC 4:3 (forgot to switch it to 480p). So the cable has been semi-working all along, i just forgot to test it with the regular tv to see if it is in the right video mode.

Now, in my situation of the cable working with or without the adapter, and looking bad...is this the best i can hope for out of a vga patched bios?

Hmm, well, i'm not entirely sure what the problem is, but i'm willing to bet that you need to use an actual LM1881N chip instead of the LM1881M.

Don't get discouraged, the VGA cable is a pain to get working, but it's worth it. Trust me.

The only added benefit of using the LM1881N chip is the fact that you can use the cable on ANY monitor, not just SoG. But if your monitor supports SoG, then there will be no added benefit of using the LM1881N chip.

Although, I still recommend using it so you can use your cable on any monitor, instead of just SoG monitors.

Yeah, i'm willing to bet that perhaps the cable isn't functioning properly. I bet if you connect your cable to a standard (non-SoG) monitor you will find that it doesn't work, because the resistor is definately necessary. (Unless the LM1881M is a different design...)

Ok the cable works, it gives me the same quality though with the vga patched bios on a new vga monitor :-/.

So, last resort is to somehow get the nkpatcher going.

i read on the xbox linux page that you can add in a buffer, i might try that. i'm going to order those 74HC14(BQ-G's i guess) tom and see if that helps. It requires the mobo though, but i'll try anything right now.

Don't use the buffer, it is hard to install, and completely unnecessary. You will get the same results with the VGA cable.

And BTW, my recommendation is to flash your TSOP with a retail BIOS, and use your modchip for your hacked BIOSes. That way, when you disable your chip it will boot the TSOP, and boot the retail BIOS, which will load the softmod, then load NKPatcher. (With VGA enabled)

NOTE: If you need a pre-compiled copy of NKPatcher, i'd be happy to help.

I have made a advancement!!!!

Ok, well i put the chip in to recover a flash of the original, and forgot to lock the hdd (again, second time). Anyways, the ind5001vga off the chip looks GREAT!!! it the vgamonkey one. Anyhow, looks GREAT!!!!

Now, i just need to get this to boot off the TSOP with evox!!! i guess, the evox m8 patch doesn't work as good or something. i'm going to try that patcher on the ind 5003 and see if it is the bios or patcher (probably the bios)

Well, i unpacked the 5003, patched it with the 0.7 patcher, packed it back, and it isn't working...no signal to monitor :-(

Sweet man, i'm stoked that you got it working. I'll look into the Evox M8 BIOS and see if anything is incorrect, and i'll be sure to let you know if the bug is fixed. Glad to hear you got it working though.

Well, i can't tell if it is your patcher or not :-/. Evox M7 works just fine from BFM though. I've tried about 20 different bioses if you count their versions, and they all do well at vga, but somehow ind5003 seems to do a bit better, not sure how, just looks...better? Not sure.
