VGA cables really don't follow a coloring standard. His best bet is to use a multimeter with a continuity tester to find out which wire goes to which pin.

Here's a pinout, it might come in handy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

If you look at the pinout you'll see the only signals to get their own independent grounds are the R G and B signals. Therefore one can reasonably assume the three shielded cables are the R G and B signals. You can harmlessly mix+match those  with the HDTV Y Pr Pb signals from the xbox which will carry R G and B while using the VGA bios hack (with the xbox-connector end jumpered to output HDTV. Componenent cables will be setup like this already. SCART and others are likely to need changing). From memory I'm not sure which YPbPr signal corresponds to which RGB signal but when you get it right, the colours will look right (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) However, you can buy multimeters very cheap these days and they are extremely useful to have around.

BTW Frosty, Like many have already said - Thanks for all your work. I've been frustrated in not being able to find a vga transcoder in stock for a reasonable price anywhere and came across your hack yesterday. A couple hours later: bios hacked, cable made, 720p looking sweet on my LCD (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) You deserve a big hug.

Glad to hear that you got it working. It's always nice to hear that my patch is working for everyone that uses it.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

Technically, the grounds can all safely connect to the same ground point without harming anything. As far as grounding on the XBOX goes though, just ground it to the XBOX A/V connector's shell.
