SIDE NOTE: i think the bbs editing function for this forum is off. it keeps duplicating text when i press the back button...anyways.

Ok, with my ibm p260 that appears to support sync on green (because it's by default very green).

in msdash i enabled all 3...480p, 720p, and 1080i.

With a CONNEXANT chip, using the EvoX m8plus bios, and a rgb2vga adapter i get these results with XBMC (build date of XBMC October, ?? 2006)...

restarting xbox in NTSC (4:3)...

0. NTSC (4:3) = everything is tinted green, and the blacks are a little red.

restarting xbox in 480p...

1. 480p (4:3) = exact same thing as NTSC (4:3).

restarting xbox in 720p ...

2. 720p (16:9) = everything is REALLY RED with some black mainly...really really RED.

restarting xbox in 1080i...

3. 1080i (16:9) = exact same thing as 720p...you like red? GOOD!!!

i'm thinking that the softmod way might help???? This way is really bad. Again, i'm not using the modified cable, just the adapter. What softmod patch should i choose though? My chip is "CONNEXANT".

i just bought a cheap xbox hd av pack off ebay and cut a hole in the side and wired in the vga.  i used this chart to wire the component plugs to the vga pins i didnt mess with the xbox avip side of the plug as the jumpers were already set. www.xboxmediacenter.com/docs/XboxVgaCable.gif

what version mobo you got. im am using a 1.1 mobo, xenium ice, x2_4981_06_265k patched with Frosty's boots to XBMC.

Alternatively, you can also use NKPatcher v10-vga10 for your VGA, which, IMO, is still the BEST way to use VGA. (I use it personally.) But, you need a RETAIL BIOS and a Softmod to use this. Modchips are not supported by NKPatcher, which is why my patcher was created in the first place. smile.gif

But, my patcher has been confirmed working with Conexant encoders by myself, Textbook, Heet, Navillos, and many others. IMO, the 'red' tint problem is probably caused by an incompatibility with the way the XBOX produces it's sync signals, and your monitor. This is why I always recommend the LM1881N method over a Sync-on-Green cable.

NOTE: If this IS indeed the case, then NKPatcher will have the same 'red' tint problem.

NOTE: NOTE: You ARE using my patcher on a 'clean' BIOS right? As in, a recently downloaded, non-patched BIOS, correct?

Yeh they are a clean bios when patched. I'm going to try and track down your softmod version. But i think i need to buy those components.

Hey wait, actually i said they are clean versions (the bios). Well, i don't see how this will matter being it is semi-working, but i am in Evox bios redefining the boot order. ii change the paths to something other than default. Also i change other things, like colours, options etc...but, this shouldn't matter correct?

changing the colors and options shouldn't matter as they're not effecting the vga patch whatsoever

i would just change the bios options on a clean bios before patching it though, this way there isn't any chance of xbtool throughing out any extra stuff or patching of the patch

I got everything to work... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  made a vga cable from a vga connector and an xbox connector with some 30 awg wire. FrostyTheSnowman patch works perfect xbox v 1.2 conexant chip. The built in port didn't work at all. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Is there a possible way to get the flubber in vga?

You got it to work with SoG?

Can anybody take a picture of what the lm chip, resistor, and capictor look like and post it? i'm on digikey's website again, but hesistate because it doesn't have pitcures. The descriptions match, but there is several available to get.

Pictures of the 3 components, or direct links to the components and their description would help wonders. I really want to build this...really really bad. Even the manufacturer of each component would narrow down the choices enough to give someone like me, who's tried once before and failed, enough confidence to repurchase the components.

The components i already bought, they won't work right? Again, the resistor and capictor have 8 legs, 4 on each side, similar to the lm chip, but alot smaller. The SoG in my monitor is flaky, works but like mentioned, not the best. Also, i can't seem to get any ms retail bios to boot out of my tsop chip when another bios is present (evox). So my only hope is this cable.

Also, do i have to hack up a cable, or can i use female rca jacks to connect to the components? i'd prefer to just connect the standard rgb cable into a adapter of some sort, rather than having to hack up 4 cables (i have 4 monitors i want to use).

BTW, where are you all getting the boxes that you put the components in, they look plastic and small. I'm wondering how big the box should be to put the chip and the other 2 in.

Ok, i got a 680o resistor, but it is a 1/2 watt...does it matter if it is 1/4 or 1/2? i mean i know it matters somewhere, but will it work fine? i also got a 470kohm 5% tolerance resistor aswell, both 1/2 and 1/4. According to the 360mods tutorial it worked for him. i also found my lm1881m chips. Not the N..but the M. I take it that it is the same thing, just the form is somehow different. Anyways, i have 5 lm's, 18 resistors, and 6 capictors total, hope i can get something working..

Still though, i was hoping there was a way to do this without ripping apart the cable. I like options. The option of just unplugging a hd pack from a adapter and still using it as intended is something i would like to have.

i got both the resistors and capictors from radioshack.

The components you need are:

(2) 0.1uf Ceramic Capacitors 50v
(1) 680k OR 470k 1/2 Watt Resistor (I use 470k, it seems to be more compatible.)
(1) LM1881N Sync Seperator IC (I'm not sure if the LM1881M is compatible, but it will probably work fine.)

As far as an RCA Adapter option, it won't work. You need more than just the RGB signals from the XBOX to make this work. I recommend buying a cheap A/V cable and using that to build a complete cable.

Here are some pictures of my own personal VGA cable using the LM1881N Sync Seperator. As you can see below, I used a cheap A/V cable and completely rewired it for use with VGA monitors. You can also see the internal components in the bottom picture.

Thanks frosty, for real man. i'm having a hard time with this all. Been through hoops so i'm going to keep trying. The only way i know to debug it is to use a continuity tester...which i might aswell build the thing in damn near explode diagram first. So tom. or some time in the next few days i'm going to build it all over with enough slack on each wire to freely test stuff. I'm using cat5 solid (think it is ~20awg)...so as you can imagine i got alot to spare. I really want this to work right with correct colours. i wouldn't be trying this any further, but these monitors don't give the best picture even when using dvi. So loosing any quality sadly, makes the monitor damn near useless.

I'm still trying to get a softmod to work, i have yet been able to get the ms retail bios to boot with a combination of any other bios (i posted about it in the tsop forum). So, using nkpatcher to test the VGA has been not a option aswell. Both cable and softmod testing have all been thrown out the door on setup. Maybe things will change, who knows. But i'm honest when i say, seriously thanks for the help. Nobody pays you to help, i understand that and your kindness.

I'm off to bed, i'm going to try halo 2 on kai in SoG (Sick of Green :-) on the monitor.

EDIT: oh wait, i do have a question about pin 24 (the one with the resisotr and cap.).  I'm taking the wire from pin 24 and soldering...well let me show you....

From pin 24 on the dongle...

CODE

        |----lm1881  <---------------
p24 ----|                           |
        |----resistor/capacitory ----

What i mean by this, is that i'm soldering the wire from the pin, to 3 things. The wire to the chip, left leg of the resistor, and left leg of the capacitory. Like i a big wad of solder holds them together. i don't have room to solder more than 1 wire to my lm1881's leg, so i have to go this way. I'm doing this on the other side aswell, and for the green (think pin22). It shouldn't matter. Also i'm putting hot glue on everything.

Do you have pictures of your bridges/joints close up? I see what it looks done, but its hard to see how you made your bridges. See, your chip is _ALOT_ bigger than mine, mine is real tiny, about 1/3 or even maybe 1/4 the size by looking at your chip and the vga header.

Yes, you NEED to enable 480p in the Microsoft Dashboard before my patch will work.

Here's how to do it:

From the start screen of the MS dash:

*Hit down at least five times which will put you on 'Settings'
*Press A
*Press down 3 times
*Press A
*Press down once
*Press A
*Press Left once
*Press A
*Press B Two Times
*Restart XBOX

NOTE: Once you have a picture, you can also enable 720p and 1080i if your monitor supports them.

This is hilarious.  smile.gif  I have been forced to do this before.  pop.gif
