I used the xbox repair guide tut mounted the vga port on my xbox all of the connection are good and correct.
Then I patch one of my bios's with FrostyTheSnowman vga patcher, using unleashx dash and xecuter bios I don't have any signal going to the monitor. My monitor supports SOG. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

Im about to attempt this myself.

I would suggest trying to narrow down the problem a bit more:

Can you ftp to your xbox? Yes: Most likely a bad or incompatible flash: reflash

No?: Probably got a short somewhere. Check your connections?

You guys are using Conexant encoders, correct?

Have you guys tried booting into the XBMC dashboard?

I can confirm that EvoX and XBMC both bootup perfectly with my patcher, but I haven't personally tested UnleashX, and UnleashX seems to be only thing that people with this problem seem to have in common.

Try another dashboard if possible.

I tried xbmc as my main dashboard and  it still has no video not getting a signal. Do I need to change the video settings in the ms dash. Because all I have there is the fullscreen, widescreen and letterbox options.  I don't have the 480 and the rest of the options.

Yes, you NEED to enable 480p in the Microsoft Dashboard before my patch will work.

Here's how to do it:

From the start screen of the MS dash:

*Hit down at least five times which will put you on 'Settings'
*Press A
*Press down 3 times
*Press A
*Press down once
*Press A
*Press Left once
*Press A
*Press B Two Times
*Restart XBOX

NOTE: Once you have a picture, you can also enable 720p and 1080i if your monitor supports them.

Well i'm stuck on where/how to make the cable. i thought a rgb (hd comp pack) to vga (rgb2vga) adapter would work but i guess not.

anyways, you say "Press left once"...why?

Where is the xbox repair guide you used? i know i have seen a few of them that show what you have done, but i can't find on in the tutorials section :-/.

'Press Left Once' would select the 'Yes' option when being asked (blindly) if you wanted to enable 480p.

Component Cables with RGB2VGA adapters do work, but very few VGA monitors support the Sync-on-Green feature, which is necessary to use this type of a cable on a VGA monitor.

Here is a link to Textbook's VGA tutorial. I used this tutorial myself to build my VGA cable.

Well i got a few hits off the net saying my monitor (ibm p260) did support then i remembered the ps2linux page and it is listed on their aswell (http://playstation2-linux.com/sog.php). So, i'm thinking it does.

i take it that the "Press left once" is only applicable if you have the hd pack. i was just trying it with the standard pack and i didn't see that.

in this thread ( i posted it in the wrong area, i don't know how i did that :-?) i explain that i don't know what the components look like themselves. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=557026

see over a year ago i bought the parts from digikey to build this thing, but when i got them the components didn't match up to what the diagrams were showing. For instance both of my .1uf and 680kohm resistors have eight pins/legs, 4on each side. finding the correct pieces at digikey (it's the only place i know) turned out to be harder than i thought. There is alot of 680k resistor models, and .1uf models. i must of wound up getting the wrong components. Sadly, there is no place local that sells these pieces so i have to go with a place online like digikey :-/

I can't enable 480 blindly is there any other way like editing the ms dash?.  I also tried iND 5001 VGA BIOS wich has vga support even at the flubber but I still don't get any picture. I problably still have to enable 480 before with that bios.

would the progressive scan patch for the ms dash  work for what I'm tryin to do?

xbmc didn't work for me either

and you can also hold in both triggers and press down on both joysticks to temporarly enable 480p so that you can pernimatly enable it

are you guys patching the bios properly. i did this last night and bam BLACK 480p looks BADASS!! oh sorry to gloat. NOT. so does Republic Commando. oh i tried the 720p and 1080i they both worked but the icons in XBMC looked all "widescreenish" so went with 480p. Thanx Frostie i gotta get you some snow man. cheesy

it took me a few tries but this is what i did. i took a fresh x2_4981 bios image and edited it with xbtool then saved the bios (dont close xbtool, leave the settings still there). then unpacked it and patched it, all with my edited settings still showing in xbtool then packed it. then for the hell of it closed xbtool and reopened it to make sure my edited settings were still there. work great. i will try and post all the games that are successfu. so for you other guys, you cant patch an image you have already previously patched. it has to be fresh one with this tool, also cant be a vga bios you are trying to patch. not saying i tried that or anything

p.s. if you are stuck in hd mode and dont have a hd tv. plug the green component plug in the yellow composite plug and bam it shows up in black and white.

later,
Nav
