Yes, you can split the audio outputs safely to 2 different stereo systems. You can even safely use them both at the same time if you want to.

If you mean use the one surround amp with either console or DVD, you could use the composite video or one of the audio to switch digital coax audio. (assuming you are using S-video all through). However, AFAIK, the PS2 is optical audio only. I'd let the amp do the digital (optical or coax) switching if possible.

Most surround systems have a Digital and Optical inputs just link them up through that and just use the left and right audio off the standard av cable..

My impression was that he is not using digital audio. Therefore, my above advice was correct because analog audio (red & white) can be easily, and safely split into 2 different stereo systems.

Just send all your audio straight to your amp and just the Yellow av connection to the av switch. Because you should have a few inputs on your amp eg on mine i have - DVD, CD, Ac-3, Aux i have a 800w pioneer dolby 5.1 amp  cool.gif .

So you will have Xbox - [L + R + DIGITAL OUTPUT]  going to amp and only video going to switcher and change sources using amp.

It actually has one, it's just hard to see. It's a clear official XBOX jewel. Here's a picture of both of my boxes, more up close:

EDIT: Note: I have actually replaced my clear Thomson DVD Drive in my clear XBOX with a Samsung SDG-605B, and I removed the sticker on the Samsung to keep the 'clean' look to my clear XBOX. The second black/white one is my newest one. It also has white power/eject LEDs.

On topic though, he actually hasn't specified if it is digital or analog, but as far as I know, analog can be split, and digital cannot. Except for maybe optical audio...

By amp do you mean receiver. Perhaps you don't understand how this is all set up. Everything runs through the switcher, and the switcher is hooked to the TV. I could theoretically just plug in the sound from the xbox into the theater system, but then I couldn't use it for everything else (PS2, DVD, TV) so I would rather do that. Any idea how...
