How Run Vga & Component?

Look for the pinout diagram of your a/v plug on your box mobo (found here). You can solder in these ports and put them in the back of your xbox. You will need to install switch's to allow it to change to the proper video mode for the VGA to be switched when there is no a/v pack plugged in the back.

Thank you!  I've heard that integrated VGA has problems; is that still the case?  I bought a Component splitter from Monoprice yesterday, so I'll be using that short-term at least.  If integrated VGA is flaky, I will probably get an X2VGA 2 unit, although they are currently sold out sad.gif

This is what I recommend you do, because it will probably save you alot of time and hassle. Although, native VGA is definately the better option, but the only compatible way to do this is to use a softmod at the moment.

Doesnt the most recent iND-5003 bios support vga, which can also be flashed to ones tsop?

No, avoid that BIOS like the plague. It does not support HDTV mode, and the highest resolution you will ever get is 480p. If you want a working, fully supported VGA solution, use an original Microsoft BIOS with NKPatcher v10-vga10 and a homemade VGA cable. I use this personally, and I can run my XBOX NATIVELY at 480p, 720p, and 1080i on my LCD monitor. Other than this, there is no other available option for TSOP/MODCHIP users other than the X2-VGA.

And yes, I am aware of the RGB BIOS Patch for modchip users, but it doesn't support anything higher than 480p either. NKPatcher v10-vga10 is the only fully functional solution right now.

A 'softmod' is the software equivilant to a modchip. They can do basically everything that a modchip can do, plus the added ability to reprogram the video encoder to output VGA. This however requires you to also either build your own cable, or solder a VGA adapter into the back of your XBOX. In a nutshell, a softmodded XBOX with and appropriately made VGA cable is the best option for VGA.

However, the X2-VGA does basically the same thing, and does not require your XBOX to be modded. The only difference is that the softmod method has a better looking picture. But as I said before, the X2-VGA is a great option for most people. The softmod VGA option is really only for the hardcore XBOX modders, as it can be a pain in the ass to get working for the average XBOX user.

I use the softmod VGA method myself, and it works perfect for me on my 19" Acer LCD monitor. Here is some pictures of the cable I made, if you are interested in seeing what goes into making a VGA cable.

Eh, well, yes and no. Softmods don't usually co-exist with modchips very well. What you would need to do is make it so you can disable your Duox2 when you want to use VGA, because when disabled it would boot the normal XBOX BIOS and the Softmod would hack it upon bootup. You would not be able to use the softmod with your Duox2 enabled, because softmods are not compatible with any other BIOS except the original MS BIOS.

My recommendation for you would still be to get an X2-VGA, because they work regardless of how your XBOX is set up. Native VGA is better, but most people wouldn't notice the difference.
