Scart Rgb Output...
« on: September 10, 2006, 12:27:00 PM »

Hi all...sorry for this completely noob question...

I've only been in the Xbox scene for the last two months (Sad...I know) and have a question...

I just spent a ton of money (all of it for shipping) on this product...

http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=...ts_id=1878&

Hooked it up while getting all excited and was so dissapointed to realise it wasn't outputting RGB...as in changing the colour setting on my TV would change the picture to Black n White. With true RGB it shouldn't matter what colour system the TV is set to...also the quality was worse than my Monster S-video cable.

I tested my PS2 with it's RGB cable and that was fine...

Is there something wrong with the cable?

Or does the Xbox bios need to be RGB patched.

I don't understand what the problem could be...pls help...

The Xbox can output RGB with proper RGB scart cables, so probably you got the incorrect one, or maybe the cable has a switch to output either composite video or RGB.

Hey VooD...

Thought as much...the cable does have a switch that says either 'RGB' or 'S-Video'...they both seem to be doing the same thing...outputting composite video...

I've writtent a real nasty letter to LikSang coz they were the last ppl I was expecting this from...

Another funny thing I noted...everytime I flick that RGB-Svideo switch, while the Xbox is on, it performs a quick reset...

rather strange...

Are you 100% certain that your TV actually accepts an RGB signal on that SCART port? How do you know this? Does the manually state this or have you tested it with other devices?

If the TV is scart is not RGB then that is the problem. Its not likely to be the lead.
You could have bought one of these cheap from Ebay by the way

1) I've seen reviews of the Set...clearly state RGB.
2) My PS2 Scart RGB cable and my Pioneer DVD player Scart RGB cable work fine. Meaning I could play back an NTSC Game/Video and change my TV setting from 'Auto' to 'Pal' and it would still be in colour (one of the ways to tell if it's really RGB cause the colour system doesn't matter with RGB).

It is definetely RGB.

The reason it cost me so much is cause I live in the Middle East. I had it shipped to a PO Box in the US that is linked to a courier company here. So shipping from Liksang to the PO Box and then courier from PO Box to here.

Did you test the Xbox on the same SCART port as your PS2/DVD player?

And some TV's support NTSC and PAL color coding (at 50 and 60hz), despite only using composite video.

My PS2 and DVD player are currently unplugged.

So yes...same Scart Port...

And my TV does not support color coding if I use composite. Tested that as well.

So it's definetely not a Bios issue?

I just looked at the cable and I wonder if it even supports RGB. The following requirements are needed for RGB SCART:

1. SCART pin 16 must output a signal between 1-3V.
2. The Xbox must must be used in RGB SCART mode (1+2+3).
3. The TV must support RGB SCART.

Some AV packs will not set the mode to 1+2+3, thereby not generating a RGB SCART signal. To learn more about SCART, look here.

Hey Zep...

After a few tests I realised the cable is faulty. I actually have to hold up the xbox end of the cable, and funny enough, it switches to Scart then. Lik Sang has apologised and assured me this is the first time it's ever happened. They've refunded my credit card. I've also just placed an order for the official Microsoft Scart cable.

Thanks to all for helpin me sort this out...
