Rgb Issues/video Set Up Problems With Modded Xbox And Aiwa Tv
« on: September 04, 2006, 06:26:00 AM »

Hi, I've been searching this forum for any similar problems but couldn't really find anything so thought I would post a new topic. Sorry if someone is aware that this has been covered, if so please just link me across to it.

I've got a v1.6 xbox modded with an xecuter 2.6CE and have installed XBMC as my main dashboard. Until now, I have been using composite video to connect my xbox to my aiwa 21" CRT tv (SE211 for anyone who is interested) and the picture has been fine. I have set the display up porperly in XBMC as PAL 4:3, and everything looks great, but when I come to play GTA San Andreas, the image stretches out vertically, as if it should be widescreen (especially noticable when aiming with the sniper rifle - get an oval viewfinder rather than circualr) meaning that some of the image is also lost at the top and the bottom of the screen. Anyone know how to cure this?

I wasn't sure how to fix the problem yet in the meantime bought the rgb/optical out xbox scart leasd after hearing of the improved picture quality of rgb over composite. The problem is that when using the rgb, whilst my tv recognises it, the output is really green (did i read in another post about a green wash effect maybe?), making the picture quality look terrible over the composite. Again does anyone know how to remedy this or maybe where I am going wrong with my set up/cabling?

Sorry for the long post, I'll be grateful of any suggestions

Cheers

Elliot

Your TV is PAL->720x576, your version of GTA San Andreas is NTSC->720x480, but because your TV is PAL it stretches the image vertically, hence making the sniper view seem oval.

AKA: You d/led the wrong version pirate... dry.gif

For the RGB problem, you need an RGB Bios, find the RGB bios patcher and patch X2 5035 or any other BIOS with it and it might not be green anymore.

What's RGB bios?
As far as I remember, region settings are kept in eeprom, display type is determined by AV cable setting, and xbox bios supports any of these combinations. However the game might not.

Thanks for the response. After reading about rgb bioses, i found this thread  tabout rgb bioses. I am quite a noob to modding my xbox but have a good enough understanding after chippin, flashing and installing software myself. Still, I dont fully understand the discussions about flashing a bios.

I have a v1.6 xbox with an Xecuter 2.6CE modchip, flashed with the X2 5035 bios. From what I have followed from that other thread, I take it that my xbox is of the wrong version to flash with an rgb bios, is this true? If so how else could i go about making it rgb compatible, before the mod, the rgb cable gave a brilliant output.

If it is flashable, do I just need to follow the tutorial here as this is the way I flashed my bios after modding. Also would I need to 'switch banks' or take flash protect off or what? Not really sure how to go about flashing it to which bank etc etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh yeah and with regards to the game, its a backup of a PAL copy and when I play it from the disc its fine. The info in XMBC also says Launch(PAL) when you click the white button in the programs folder. Any ideas?

Yeah, I mis-understood him.  I was thinking he was talking of RGBHV and not the Y Pr Pb component.  Silly mistake considering no one would make an Xbox RGBHV cable, because without a modded Xbox it wouldn't work.  RGBHV is on some of the older projectors, from what I've read it's basically VGA with a bunch more connectors, and you would have to have a VGA bios for it to work properly.  It's somewhat hard to see but this is my projector's RGBHV input to the right IPB Image
