Video Output Question
« on: July 05, 2006, 12:04:00 PM »

I use composite video (yellow plug) for my xbox. Video as u all know, aint so good but O.K.
I wanted to upgrade to a component cable(considering MADCATZ UNIVERSAL).

My TV Supports 480i but not 480p.

So my question is ,

1) What difference would there be, if I switch to component (480i)(the max possible quality on my T.V) ??

2) Will there be any quality difference between madcatz cable & MS's OFFICIAL Hidef component cable??

I expect a massive difference.

i have a samsung 20" flat tube tv, it has component in, but doesn't supports HDTV, even still, the picture quality between the composite and component cables is stunning. Although between the 2 brands, i'm not sure how much difference you'd notice at those resolutions.

The difference between composite and component is very noticeable. (Yes...upgrade to component!)

The difference between various component cables or brands of component cables is not as noticeable.(Buy MS or MadCatz - whatever you want...it's your money.)

It's common sense, here.  Use the best form of connectivity that your TV/Monitor allows for all of your devices (DVD Player, Cable Box, Satellite Receiver, game consoles etc.).  In your situation, it's clearly component all the way.

<grumpy old man post> mad.gif

Back in my day, the 27" Sony Trinitron I owned used to have an S-Video input (great signal 12-15 years ago).  I had to order expensive custom S-Video cables for all of my older systems.  Redmond Cable took a lot of my money back then.

You will see NO difference if you use component cables on that TV.

Everyone who sees a difference on non-hdtv sets are using edtv sets which support 480p.  Since yours is simply sdtv, you will not see any difference and are wasting your money.

i beg to differ..even s-video is a big improvement over composite so  component even on sdtv is gonna be an improvement

oh... ok...

MADCATZ       >            Psyclone             >            Monster XGL400X

Since there isn't gonna be much difference unsure.gif on my 480 Interlaced set, i'll go with Psyclone(24.95)  and see how it works!!

Replies are most welcome....

What?  I believe that you are wrong...Even on an ordinary TV (640x480) composites signal will give you a fuzzy picture.  But with component cables it will sharpen up the image, and remove the fuzziness, it won't look as good as 480p, but 480i with component will look better then 480i with composite.

If you want the best, then Monster is the way to go, here is the Monster cable for 20$ shipped off of flea-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/...1QQcmdZViewItem

If you can't see an improvement from composite->component then there is something very wrong....  wink.gif
