Xbox Won't Change To Widescreen

I'm trying to change my xbox settings to widescreen so it fits my new tv, but it will never switch.  I have tried changing the setting in msdash to widescreen and nothing happens.  I've also tried changing the PMIII skin to 16:9 and that doesn't do anything either.  What's the problem?

Sounds a bit weird... maybe you have a softmod with virtual EEPROM?

yes I do have a softmod.  I don't think I can change the bios, so is am I stuck with 4:3?

You just need to use a BIOS-loader once which naturally will access the real EEPROM and change the setting, after that everything will be just fine.

ok I restored my stock hd to its original state by copying over the c and e drives from Slayers.  I've tried going to msdash and changing to widescreen but still it will not switch over.  Do you need HD cables to switch to widescreen?  Someone help me out please.

take dudes advice...install a mod chip, or change the actual eeprom through bios loader

If the setting is visible, you can obviously use it w/o component cables.

I would just go with the high-def cables.  I know mine won't switch on my standard tv, but I tried high-def cables at a friends house and it would switch to widescreen.
