I have a couple of questions about output to VGA using a custom-made cable. I have searched this site and Google extensively, and read every tutorial I can find, but there's a couple things I'm still unsure about.

First, can you or can you not do this with a 1.6? Most posts I have found suggest that getting your homemade VGA cable to work on a 1.6+ is impossible, but I found a changelog for the X3 bios that says VGA mode is supported for all Xbox versions 1.0-1.6b. I don't really think this is possible, but I just want to confirm that.

Second, for my 1.1 Xbox this should work providing I use an X3 bios with VGA support. If I have a monitor with VGA, S-Video, and Composite inputs, my question is: is it worth it to do the VGA, or should I just use S-Video? I'm not well-versed enough in video signal technology to know if the VGA connection will look a lot better than the S-Video. From the little I do know, I think it will, but I'm not sure and I was wondering if I could get some opinions. Obviously computer monitors have much better resolutions than televisions, but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to take advatage of that with an Xbox.

As of now, you cannot output VGA video on a 1.6 Xbox. A separate transcoder is the only way to achieve VGA output.

Definitely use VGA if you can. VGA signals are able to carry a few times more information than S-Video.

can you output VGA signal from a 1.6 using something like x2vga adapter. And when using the adapter is it that still better then s-video.

By adaptors you mean transcoder, I assume. These do work well with any xbox version except the older versions of eg. the X2VGA. No matter wether you use a VDigi-Z3 or a Digital-X X2VGA(2)(+) or a Component to VGA-Box.

Ok sorry to bring this back after 3 weeks but now that I've got my Xbox working again I'm looking to do this.

I have an extra standard Xbox A/V cable and a spare VGA cable. From what I can tell, the monitor I'm going to use this on (an "old" Dell 2000fp 20" LCD) has Sync-on-Green so I can just use the straight-through method described here with no additional electronic components. The issue I'm still a little lost on is the BIOS. I use EvoX M8+ right now. According to the XS BIOS chart, NO bios is VGA capable, but I know that's not accurate because obviously people make this work. What BIOS should I use? The only features I need are IGR and the abililty to skip the DVD check.

Has anyone ever used one of these? I'm surprised I haven't seen much talk about them considering they're only $25.

The reason there only $25 is there not HD.

Use the iND VGA BIOS patched by junkymonkey or something like that.

go a few pages back and use dvaders vga patch.. you can patch any non 1.6 bios and it works awesome..ind bios wont display flubber and stuff for me but dvaders vga patch will

Yeah, patch X2_5035 for VGA with this patch. It's the best option (in my opinion) for your situation.

But can I have better signal to my old video projector with this?I now use composite (I assume...one cable with RCA) and try to find solution to connect Xbox in to it. The model is this:
