Dvd Swap Almost A Success, Help Needed
« on: July 18, 2003, 07:49:00 AM »

Okay, still have the problem, but was wondering if anyone has succesfully completed this dvd swap w/o a modchip installed in they're xbox? Secondly, if you have a modchip in your system and have done the swap, what modchip are you using?

I haven't done this yet, but I am pretty sure that you aren;t suppose to eject by using the XBOX eject button.  When I connected my Acer DVD-ROM to my XBOX's IDE in place of my Thomson, hitting the XBOX eject would eject the Thomson even though it wasn't connected to any IDE cable.  The eject command is probably being sent through the power cable the retail XBOX DVD-ROMs use.  This makes sense since pressing the eject button can turn the system on.  Its a proprietary connector, and I doubt you can create some-sort-of adapter since normal DVD-ROMs eject through the IDE cable or with their built-in button.

the drive works without a modchip but dont see why u would want one without a chip

did u make sure the fw flashed by testing it in pc b4 mod ?

if u did the audio connector mod make sure none of the pins r touching drive or a bit of solder making a connection.

all mine now have been 616t outside 616f inside
if u have flashed the fw with 605 then u dont need anything else only turn the motor round and wire the 4 points

the only thing that is diff it is a true 616f is u need to remove a bit of plastic on the front of the drive if u have a 616f u need to goto somewhere like xboxhacker and take a look in there forums they have some nice pics of what u need to cut

i cant be 100% sure on this but i have not heard of anyone having a prob with getting the drive to work on any xbox apart from they missed something on modding or they have damaged a trace or a point while modding and not realised
if modding went 100% right im sure the drive would work on any xbox
i have 2 v1.0 and it works in both one is modded with 2.1 lite the other dont have a modchip in anymore and it works in both

one question:

If the motor is reversed in your 616t , does the 616t-eject button open the drive ?
I mean it shouldnt after reversal ???!!!!

my button on the 616t does open the tray....

is that as it should be ?

I only modded 2 DVD drives, not Xbox's. I tried both of the DVD's in the same xbox w/ the same results. The drive ejects fine when I use the button on the DVD drive, just not the xbox eject button. You will get an xbox error if the jumper is set to master. It should be set to slave.
I have an original xbox w/ the Tompson drive, so that probably makes it V1.0 One thing I did notice on my xbox, is when I turn it on and let it load up for a few seconds w/ a game in, then hit the xbox eject button, the eject button flashes, and I hear a sound in the Samsung that sounds like a "click" like either the laser assembly moves or the tray wants to come out, but doesn't. Drpiety, are you getting this sound?
Which DVD mod guide did you find to be the easiest to follow. No offence, but I swear they are all a little dif. on how they put it together. Some show the back of the xbox cable, some the front, some not saying-just misleading drawings. Some have Trin/Trout backwards, etc.
