Crap.  720p still has the same issues with this vga patch as it does with the original (and all the rest) vga bios.  It does not accept a tri-level sync, and just interprets 720p as a bi-level sync (480p is bi-level, but 720p is not).  The outcome is fubared color ratio's.  Everything is purple and red.  I was hoping to put my transcoder away for good. DVADER, any chance at adding tri-level sync for 720p to the vga patch?

Thanks again for the time and effort you have put into it already. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Maybe you can explain this to me?  I will do some research on it at work today, 720p is working for me though.

I have tried 720p using both the iND BIOS and Dr Oldschool's NKPatcher patch.  Both output with a purple color.  I know my monitor supports 720p, but the color is all screwed up.  I haven't tried using your patcher yet, but that's what Foe-Hammer is talking about.

Basically in 480p the sync pulse in the video is "bi-level" meaning it only goes negative and the VGA bios is designed to "clip" that negative sync off.  720p and 1080i use a "tri-level" sync meaning the sync goes negative and then positive.  The current VGA bios is only able to clip the negative portion off but can not do anything about the positive portion of the video.  Many pc monitors will interpret this positive sync tip as color info and sample the black reference level incorrectly (thereby producing an overall purple image).   I expect there may be a way to fix that with the VGA BIOS if it is designed to switch the video encoder to use "bi-level" syncs for 720p and 1080i.

The VGA BIOS leaves part of the sync in the color signal, which causes the problem.  The way transcoder get around this (x2vga2, etc.) is they are designed to remove all of the sync.

.. also there are no non-working or green tinted games anymore with this..

Hmmm....all the xbox game that reverted back to green (morrowind, kotor1&2, all splinter cells) do the same with these vga bios, as well.

Also, DVADER, have you had a chance to ponder/consider the tri-level issue with 720p?  Just curious (crossing fingers that one day 720p will work properly). tongue.gif

Splinter Cell 2 works fine the X3_3294 in 480p.  720P and 1080i look purple, though.

Splinter cell 1 & 3 are green, i just assumed splintercell 2 was also (that's what assuming does).  Anyhow, all the games that were green on the other vga bios are green with these.  And you are correct that 720p and 1080i is image is purple.

Any though on the HD resolution problem, DVADER?

There are instances when video mode is switched without resetting gpu. In these cases code that sets gpu output to RGB is not called hence it's outputting YCbCr.

Also see my sig for thread with my nkpatcher vga code.
It can patch the retail bios on the fly with vga support and also auto patch 480i only games/applications to output progressive video i.e. no hex patching. It does things a bit differently than all VGA bioses - iND, JunkMonkey, etc that basically use the same Pixel8 vga code.
I have never had any green tint issues with my code in games including Jade Empire and Spliter Cell series.
Of course this is on my 1.4 focus chip, but theoretically it should run even on 1.6 xcalibur boxes.
Only not much people seem to be interested in trying this...

digged up the pinned topics.
I think this could be helpful.

Right, I just posted this thread this afternoon and a reply said to try an RGB bios flash. I am quite a noob to modding my xbox but have a good enough understanding after chippin, flashing and installing software myself. Still, I dont quite follow the previous discussions about flashing a bios completely.

I have a v1.6 xbox with an Xecuter 2.6CE modchip, flashed with the X2 5035 bios. From what I have followed above, I take it that my xbox is of the wrong version to flash with an rgb bios, is this true? If so how else could i go about making it rgb compatible, before the mod, the rgb cable gave a brilliant output.

If it is flashable, do I just need to follow the tutorial here as this is the way I flashed my bios after modding. Also would I need to 'switch banks' or take flash protect off or what? Not really sure how to go about flashing it to which bank etc etc. Any help would be appreciated.

v1.6 XBOXs are not compatible with RGB or VGA unfortunately. They use a special video encoder that no one has been able to reprogram yet.
