hey dvader for the x2 5032 it says this:

*START PATCHING*

[SEARCH & REPLACE PATCH]
loading file:
xboxkrnl.img
Cant find pattern!Trying next one...
nothing patched!
...done!

*PATCHING DONE*

now maybe this says it works but, other bios' say different stuff

Weird, I'll d/l 5032 at work tomorrow and take a look at it.

Someone asked if this will patch an X3 bios, I will try that tomorrow also.  I believe the x3 is a 1mb bios so I won't be able to test it on my xbox, but I can test the patching util...

Sorry, can't do it at home, dialup here.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Thanks for trying. I wasn't able to unpack the X3 bios with Xtool.  I haven't used it much before, so I wasn't sure that I was doing it right.

I was able to unpack the latest x3 bios with xbtool without a problem.  I haven't tried the vga patch as of yet, because i don't have my cable right now.

DVADER, are these bios any different then pixel8's vga bios (the original)?  I ask because 720p never worked properly with them, and i'm crossing my fingers that this vga patch is different (i could get rid, for the most part, of my transcoder then).

Thanks for the time and effort you have put into this, as well. beerchug.gif

yes 720p works on this bios patch.. also there are no non-working or green tinted games anymore with this..just as a note if you make a cable the jumpers for vga are jumpers 2 and 3 not 1 and 3 like old pics show.. 2 and 3 like component hdtv

Like I said earlier, I had never used XBTool before.  I was looking for the files in the wrong place.  Anyway, I unpacked X3_3294, used the patch, and packed the bios again.  I flashed the chip, and it worked!  I now have X3 in VGA, something I have wanted for a long time.

It acted kind of weird, though.  The flubber showed up the correct color, then the Xbox logo went from the normal colors to the green tint.  Then, XBMC booted up fine, VGA.  I'm not sure what to make of this.  It's just an annoyance.

Thank you very much!

thats common..not for the bios' i use but no sweat... if you dont want the annoyance get x2 5032 bios and flash on unused banks and get x2configmaker and set it all the way you like..also what version mobo do you have this on?? cause if you got it working on a 1.6 then that is yet another added bonus cause they always said you cannot have vga on a 1.6

It's a 1.0.  It will be big news if it works on a 1.6.  Someone needs to try this.

I noticed that also, my projector is in a different mode when the Xbox logo displays, making it all out of proportion and the convergence is all off.  I didn't even try to fix that and probably won't.

I see someone already tested this on a 1.6 without success, which doesn't surprise me.  I'm sure making a 1.6 work w/ vga will be beyond my ability, sorry.  I will take a look at it this week though, does anyone have technical specs on the video chip the 1.6 uses?  I don't have a 1.6 xbox so testing will be rough.

Weird, I just tried it on 5032 and got this:

*START PATCHING*

[SEARCH & REPLACE PATCH]
loading file:
xboxkrnl.img
file patched!
Backup file:
xobxkrnl.img.BAK
...done!

*PATCHING DONE*
----------------------------------------

Maybe you are trying to patch the already-patched kernel?  That would explain why it works...
Try re-extracting w/ xbtool?

It worked anyway, so I'm not gonna worry about it...  I did some research on the 1.6, didn't take long to find out it's a proprietary video chip made for the xbox.   Maybe if someone donates a modded 1.6 for testing lol.   I'll see if I can find some kernel source and do what I do but don't hold your breath.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/comp.gif)

« Reply #29 on: May 31, 2006, 03:34:00 PM »

Crap.  720p still has the same issues with this vga patch as it does with the original (and all the rest) vga bios.  It does not accept a tri-level sync, and just interprets 720p as a bi-level sync (480p is bi-level, but 720p is not).  The outcome is fubared color ratio's.  Everything is purple and red.  I was hoping to put my transcoder away for good. sad.gif

DVADER, any chance at adding tri-level sync for 720p to the vga patch?

Thanks again for the time and effort you have put into it already. beerchug.gif
