X2 4981 & 5035 W/ Vga Patch
« on: May 22, 2006, 02:45:00 PM »

Greetings,

After searching high and low for a usable VGA bios (ind-bios 5001 would not launch anything other than my dash for me), I patched the 5003 bios for VGA use.  Still, not liking this, I tackled the X2 bios and after a little screwing around I got it cranking.

So... I have successfully (On my 1.3 xbox) patched these two bioses (X2 4981 & 5035) for vga output.  If anyone is interested in testing either one, let me know.

They are working on my setup which is:
Xbox 1.3 -> HD Component Adapter > RCA to BNC adapters > Barco 808 Projector RGB Input.

I've tested 480p, 720p, and 1080i, in the dash and in-game.  As usual, a few games launch green, but most are ok.

I'd like to get these tested more thoroughly, so please someone volunteer and I'll send it over to you.

Good day DVADER,

I was intrigued by your message that stated that you have patched X2 bioses to work with VGA. That is quite an achievement and it's good to see that someone still cares about vga development.  I am interested in testing it on a PAL 1.4 system. Do you believe that this is possible because it could be interesting considering the Focus chip.

Sorry for asking so many questions but I was also wondering how you got ind-5001 to boot a bios, cause so far, it just freezes at the loading screen for me. I know the VGA port works because it always comes up with the start up and enigma and linux can run off of it but I can't get any Dash or game run off of it. Do you have any suggestions?

I appologise for ambushing you (and sending this twice) but any help is greatly appreciated.

Acctually, forget everything about the vga help, there's way too many forums out there for this already. What I'm curious about is how you got the bioses patched and if I can try them!!! smile.gif

Cheers anyway,
catch ya

2 things i have spare banks on my smartxx3 and vga on the back of my box..so of coarse i would like to try them...second the ind bios looks for evoxdash.xbe... rename your dash that or put a second file named that in. or if that works...here is the deal turn off 720p and 1080i and leave 480p on.. and some emulaters you have to enable 480p to work..only 2 of them that i have found

This should patch any bios to output RGB:

http://home.earthlink.net/~emccord01/rgb.b...atcher.v0.1.zip

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.  I have only tested this on a few bioses.  I am pretty sure this doesn't include the patch to output 480p w/o a HD pack connected, because I use the HD pack to connect my projector.  This is best used with the HD pack outputting component, then a component to VGA cable.  Good because it means no internal mods are needed, bad if you already have these mods I guess.  On the other hand, maybe it will work.  Someone please test.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

i did this with the x2 live bios 5032 and 5035 and they both work great .. i use the 5032 cause it is the last working version with the x2configmaker..i use the lm1881 vga mod.. my monitor does not support 720p or 1080i so they have issues running on these modes but actually display like reception going in and out unlike the ind vga bios wich does not display at all on my monitor.. on the x2 5032 bios it said it didnt patch but it did and worked.. so just cause it says it didnt patch doesnt mean it didnt.. thanks for this program. also the flubber animation and x logo screen work on this unlike the ind vga bios

Thanks for testing!  Glad to hear it works.  Think you could copy me the output of the 'failed' patch?  Maybe I can figure out why it's doing that.

MMhhh: XBtool doesn't extract the bios 5032 or 5035.
I get this message: Extracting compressed KERNEL image... Invalid config params for kernel extract!
But there's no config parameter I can set: only the powerled color can be changed.

Is XBtool the only utilit that can be used for this job?
