Streaming From Xbox (series 1 Xbox)
« on: January 11, 2006, 10:55:00 PM »

I just had a thought tonight.I have a 200gb HD that I have some of my DVDs saved on and I was wondering something.I dont have much space left on my xbox and my DVD collection will keep getting larger as new movies keep coming out.So If I started to store my DVDs on my computer and continue to have my xbox hooked up to my computer is there a way I can stream those videos that are stored on my PC from my xbox?If its not possable I wont sweat it but Im wondering if it is and if it is then how would I go about doing it?

Thank you all for the help.

Use Windows File Sharing (a.k.a.: "SMB"). Read the instructions in Xbox Media Center and in the manual on how to set it up. You can also check some of the tutorials at the website of Xbox Media Center.

Ok I gave up on using that software som im setting up XBMC and doing SMB shares.I think I have most of it figured out and complete but one question I do have.I no longer am hooked up to my cable cuz i moved so I dont have a DNS ip to insert to the "<nameserver></nameserver>" tags inside the xboxmediacenter.xml file.So what do I put here or am I able to not do it this way since im not hooked up to my cable?

Ok so just to make sure, I change that stuff on the computer end and not the xbox end correct? Also my computer which is running on XP doesnt have any password protection but does have an account name (that lil box you have to click on when xp boots) so all i have to do is enter that name on my xbox and no password then right?
Thanx for all the help everyone

No. Read again... SLOWLY:

i've never changed them mate,
all i've had to change is the smb:// share parts under my videos/my music whatever to point to your pc's ip with your pc's username and password
It's better to adjust that instead of the settings on your computer.

You might give more information about your home network. Is it connected to the internet? Is DHCP used? In what IP-range(s) are your computers? What is the IP-address of the computer from which you want to share movies and music? rolleyes.gif
