I have a Shure XLR Microphone I want to hook up to my xbox for karaoke.  I can easily convert this to 1/4", but when I go 1/4" -> mini and into the xbox communicator, it does not work for some reason.  Is there any possible way to get this thing working... even if it means breaking apart my xbox communicator and wiring the microphone directly to the damn thing.

Also, how are the microphones that come with Xbox music maker?  If they're decent, I'll just buy that but I've read that they aren't really loud.
