Have you tried it on the PAL TV yet? Practically all newish PAL TV's will accept an NTSC signal.

Other than that, you can change the video output by following the guide I did a while ago, just change to PAL instead of NTSC

Not every PAL TV set supports NTSC colour signals, but most tellies made in the last 15 years do support 60 Hz signals - i.e. NTSC timings. The fool-proof (and best quality to boot) solution is to buy an RGB SCART cable, like the MS Advanced SCART. In RGB mode, the colour is *not* coded in either PAL or NTSC and the box will Just Work. If you mod your Xbox, you can also set the dashboard to auto-switch the video system according to game region.

I'm at Canada right now so i won't be able to test my Xbox on a PAL TV.

So correct me if i am wrong, by doing this http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=194483 i will be able to use it on a PAL TV with no problems.

I am going to South Africa, and they use 220v and 50Hz. Will the Xbox after been modded be able to be used on a PAL TV with 220v and 50Hz.

Also if i do that mod can i only play games in PAL then, and if i wanted to play some NTSC games would i have to do that mod again but select NTSC instead of PAL.

Thanks for the help.

I don't know for sure about Canada, but don't you have 110 v instead of S.A's 220? IF you got 110 v in Canada, then you must buy new hardware in order to be able to use your console in S.A. Ask for a voltage transformer 110->220 capable of handling up to 100 w. Good luck and beware of the great whites!

The voltage is not such a big problem when compared to the video problem.

All i want is to be able to use a Xbox i bought from Canada(which is NTSC) and use it in South Africa(which uses PAL) on a PAL TV.

Any options i have.

If you would've taken the time and read through my guide properly, you would've noticed that it does not allow your Xbox to play games from a different region, all it does is change the video output. As your Xbox is still a US machine, it will only play US games (but display in PAL format)

If you want to play PAL games, you need to get your machine modded. It will make video changing and everything else much easier.

You also need a stepdown transformer, at least 150-250 watt.

If i use this SCART cable will i be able to use it on a PAL TV also if i want, all i do is remove the cable and it will work on a NTSC TV, so there is no modding at all to make it work in both PAL or NTSC format.

I'm wrong or am i correct.

And if i am wright where do i get that cable from.

Exactly, provided of course that the PAL TV in question has an RGB capable SCART connector. I don't know if they use those in South Africa, but if the models are the same as in Europe you're in the clear - every European TV set manufactured in the last 15 or so years will have one. You'll get the cable from any store selling Xboxes, of course(in PAL countries). The key here is that RGB signals are *neither* NTSC nor PAL, the colours are not combined or encoded in any way.

Now - just to be clear: I haven't tested the above in your specific configuration. But my Xbox does display stuff through an RGB cable on a PAL TV even if the console's video region is set to NTSC/USA. So I don't see why it wouldn't work in your case.
