Xbox On Plasma - Sometimes Black Bars?

OK, bascially setup im usings is this:

Panasonic 42" plasma
Xbox modded running latest XBMC 18/11/05
connected using HD AV pack.

Everything enabled in MSDASH for widscreen and HD

Now, this is the wierd bit

In XBMC home, everything is fine, and is viewed edge to edge on the screen. Movies fine etc.

On my previous plasma, all games worked fine, edge to edge on the screen.

Since upgrading plasma and also XBMC im now getting some black bars on games on the screen.

For instance, NFL Blitz is perfect and works edge to edge.

Super monkey ball is edge to edge on the top and bottom but has about 2" of black bars left and right... No way big enough to make it 4:3, its in widescreen, but not edge to edge.

Then some games, like burnout revenge has 2" on sides and about 1" top and bottom. Its still widesreen, just made slightly smaller...

Does anyone have any ideas? is it XBMC? all games are on the HDD and i do think anythings been changed... is there a setting etc?

Could it be some are pal games some are ntsc?

any help or suggestions would be great.

I have this exact same issue - I have a 50" Fujitsu panel.

No problems in MS dash, nor XBMC itself, nor movies etc, just certain games - most recently noticed this on Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and the new Harry Potter game.

I have a few friends with Pana panels and same issue.

I have other friends with LG and Soniq panels, but they never have this issue.

Unfortunately I do not have a solution, but I too would greatly appreciate some assistance regarding this

anyone..?

its cause the game is not HD... therefor, it will not be widescreen. and remember 480P is not widescreen.

Uh, so widescreen DVDs are not widescreen?  Yes, yes they are.  They are animorphic widescreen, which the XBOX also supports.  I can tell you any 480p game that supports 16x9 is true widescreen.  Now my widescreen 60" HDTV, for example, does not auto detect this.  So when I launch the XBOX  everything looks tall and skinny with black bars on the side.  I have to use my TV remote to tell it to switch to widescreen "standard" (i.e. not a zoom/stretch mode) and everything looks fine.  My guess is your Plasmas just are not autodetecting the format on some games.
