Quick Question About Hd Games

i have a 30inch wide screen with hdtv ready with all bells and whisles when im playing a game that is high def how do i know that it is working all my tv desplay read is
720*480(60p)  what dose this mean is it hd ? i dont realy understand this and also in
xmbc i cand change it to 1080i dose that mean it will up convert my dvds ?can some one explain plese thanks

The second number is the vertical resolution, so you were in 480 mode which really isn't HD.

If that number ever reads 720 or 1080, you are in HD.

Most games don't support HD modes.

You have to enable them for games using the MS Dash.

Exactly.  So it was 60Hz (or 60 frames per second) progressive.  In 1080 mode you will see 60i for 60 Hz and interlaced.  If your HDTV supported 1080p mode (which it doesn't) you would see 30p for 30 Hz (frames per second) in progressive.  The XBOX and most HDTVs don't support that mode.

I'm confused, 1080p runs at 30 frames per second while 720p and 480p run at 60?

Why is that confusing?  1080p can also run at 24 frames per second.

Well mostly because I wasn't sure about the statement I made.  Am I correct in saying that 720p runs at 60 fps?
