Check the CASE MODS forums, it's already been done.

hey guys.  i dont know if this should have been in any of the other hardware parts of the forum, but here goes:

i have this LCD screen from a defunct laptop. its about 11x8 inches in size. it has all of the cables and i have the power invertor that was inside of the laptop with it.
i could make it into a lcd screen for my computer, but it costs about $300, so its not really worth it, i would just go out and buy a new one.

anyways, i was wondering if there was any way that i could make it usable for use along with my xbox, or if there is anything cool that i could do (as long as its interesting and hopefully farily cheap). i remember seeing an xbox in the buy/sell forum with a lcd screen in the top part of the case, but it was only a really tiny one. i was wondering if maybe the same rules would apply. any help/info/ideas are appreciated.

thanks

See the modding section.

It's been done, but it's a bit UGLY.

I'm not saying there isn't a cheaper way to do it, but, wouldn't the same modifications be needed to make it a computer monitor vs. and XBOX monitor?  So it would be the same price, right?

Lol!

Only that it requires a good bit of expertise and patience, fairly outside the norm of mere mortals!

Ask for help all you want, just don't expect others to do your legwork for you.

You could search, or if that was down, just start perusing the threads until you find the cited posts.

I was under the impression that a laptop lcd was essentially useless (according to all the threads stating such in the modding forum), simply because the lcd was wired to accept a signal directly from the video encoder instead of a VGA source.  I see now that I may be under the wrong impression.  The first link shows a homemade "standard laptop LCD connector to VGA" adaptor, which would be helpful to me and many others with "dead" laptops.  Anyone have a pinout or an idea of how to accomplish this?

*Ahem*Spillage, Birdtales*nudge*

EDIT: Also, I am aware of laptop LCD controller cards, and as expensive as they are, are not an option for me and many others.

Sorry I used Compaq TFT 5000 VGA monitors in my project not Laptop LCDs. I took the easy way out. They sell on eBay for 30-50 broken. Buy a couple and make 1.

yes, i have a similar question, i have a flatscreen moniter that i would like to use, following this guide (http://xbox-scene.co...s/vga-cable.php) and this diagram http://pictures.xbox...le/image007.png) i can wire it up and make everything internal right (hook all the connections up to the video chip inside the xbox rather than have a plug on the outside)

if i did solder it to my a/v plug, would it disrupt the video output if i pluged into a normal tv with another plug?
