IF you have the right TV you can get close. I just got a SONY FD Trinitron Vega, and I for one can tell you that a 720p game looks AWSOME on it, of course the bigger the TV the bigger the pixilation, SO with a 27 incher like mine and also with true 720p (not 720p Upverted to 1020i) you can get a really sharp picture.

It's simple.  Measure the diagonally size of the screenshots that look smooth.  What are they, 6 inches?  8 inches?  Now measure the diagonal size of your TV screen.  32 inches?  60 inches in my case.

Obviously a picture is going to look better the smaller it is.

No, it's what I said before.  Unless you are looking at screenshots on a 60inch monitor or a 60inch piece of paper, then on your 60inch TV it's going to look worse.
