Lcd Response Times
« on: November 11, 2005, 01:16:00 AM »

hey all

i am about to buy a new widescreen (about 17") for my computer. im fed up with my crt, and i love widescreens.

obviously, the main thing with lcd's is the response time. but theres one thing i cant figure out.

the two models that i am looking at state their response times in two different formats:

Polyview v398   -   8ms
BenQ FP71W     -   25ms (15 rise + 10 fall)

so what is the go with the ones that state just one figure? am i right in assuming that when just one figure is stated, it is the shortes out of the rise and fall? if so, then the response time of the BenQ monitor (the one i am tending to like the most), isnt that bad after all.

thanks
Daniel Cole

edit: heres a quick comparison between the two monitors. if you want to add any coments about which one you think is better, please feel free to do so.

The time quoted as a single figure is the sum of both rise and fall so the Polyview monitor with 8ms would be the better monitor.

Actually in specs it is the better monitor (higher resolution, better response time), but as always, if you can check out both before buying, then I would.

The BenQ has the contrast ratio in it's favour.

LCDs suck, it isn't just the response time. Its the lack of color, good lcds are only 8 bit which is only 16 million colors. Most Lcds are only 6 bit and therefore are considerably less colorful.  A good CRT beats an LCD any. Get a plasma as a monitor.

if you are looking for a 17" inch LCD i think it is foolish to buy an LCD that small, as for the same price you could get a High end 19" CRT that would whoop it hands down.

That is cool, and would be useful, but you need to find a monitor with a faster refresh rate or you simply won't be able to play games.
