No Red And Blue Signal With Vga Mod
« on: September 02, 2005, 09:56:00 PM »

hello everyone.

i have just hooked up a tempory VGA mod, following this tut.

i am using the componet output to get the vga.

the problem is that i am only getting a green screen.

dad hooked up the crow to it, and as it turn out, there is no ouput signal coming out of the red and blue pins.

i have the IND VGA bios running, if that info is of any help.

speedy replies will be evry much appreciated

thank you all ina advance.

another update.

i tried the IND bios that is VGA compliant (by junkmonkey). the fiel i downloaded was a rar archive. in it had 4 256kb bioses.

i tried the one name     ind-bios.5001.67.vga.bfm.b1-junkmonkey     but that didnt work. all that succeeded was to stop teh xbox from botting up.

but i swapped chips (we have heaps), so thats no probs.

so with a 1.1(or 2 - not sure exactly) mobo with a conexant video encoder, what bios should i use?

the other bioses in the rar i dl'd are:
ind-bios.5001.06.vga.b1-junkmonkey
ind-bios.5001.06.vga.bfm.b1-junkmonkey
ind-bios.5001.67.vga.b1-junkmonkey

thanks in advance
cheers

You obviously don't know what you are doing. Why did you flash a BFM-bios to your chip? blink.gif

ok, i made the vga cable permament (in a removable fashion) by hacking up a standard av cable.

buzzed it all out from the vga connector to the mobo pins, so i know that there is no problem there.

can i ask another q? can someone tell me the specific os what a vga bios does? besides the sync signal on the green, i cant see what a vga bios does. can someone help me out?

The VGA bios changes the amount of the RGB colors so it looks normal on your monitor...
IND-bios vga patched should work for you. But don't flash the BFM bios, flash the one without BFM in the name...

ok, i flashed the .67 bios.

good news is that the red and blue levels are about right

bad news is that there is still a green overlay in everything, and the bios cant see anythign on my F:, and it wont load the dash its told to....

ill have another snoop around, but can anyone tell me why this is happening, and what i can do to fix it?

thanks very much

BFM = boot from media, IE NOT modchip

06 = F only drives, up to 130gb around i think or 137gb
67 = F and G, so larger drives.

other than that they all work the same.   I'd use the IND bios VGA 06 or 67.

if you're getting a green tint on everything, try a different monitor.  Not all monitors will actually work with this cable.  some still get a green tint.

as far as not getting the right dash to load etc, it loads evoxdash.xbe after the dvd default.xbe first, so if your dash isn't named evoxdash.xbe even if it isn't the evox dash, it might have problems.

check the thread in my sig for a bunch of random bits of help.

yeah, learned the BFM the hard way  sad.gif

i put the 06 bios on, and it can see everything in the F: now.....

and it is still giving the green tint, but im going to make up a far more complicated circuit that doesnt need a vga bios.. biggrin.gif

heres the schematics for it

and i figured out why it wasnt loading the config.....it was looking for a different named file on the c: to load the config from, so ive sorted that out.

do you have any coments on the new cable im going to make?

cheers

my comment is that it'd be fairly hard to make that cable.  plus if you dont have all the resistors, its a lot of different size resistors to find and buy.

also, i heard it doesn't work perfectly.  if this is the one with that specific chip, i remember hearing that you should use two in series to get better results.  I'd look that up, i'm not sure.

If you're that woried, i'd just go for buying a component to RGB VGA converter box.  its more expensive, but it'll work better and you can use it with any component HD device.  you wont need the bios.

if you do build that thing, good luck.

before you throw away your old cable, try it on another monitor, about half the ones i tried (LCD and CRT) worked.

I too got a monitor wich will get a green tint even though I use a VGA bios... I don't know why some monitors get this..
Like you said try it on another monitor.. From what I can tell you have done everything right.
