Complicated Nstc/pal Issue

wink.gif

I bought an American dreamcast last year on holiday, I happily played with it for 2 days after which I lost interest in the included wrestling game (hey, I told you it was an American dreamcast wink.gif) everything nice and well I never got around to playing more with it due school, work, other stuff you name it.

However a friend of mine recently told me that I could run ''back-up'' copies of dreamcast games on a un-modified dreamcast, I did some research and once again never got around doing it.

Now I do finally have do have some time a lot of spare CD-R's and my Dreamcast however the next problem arise. I used to play dreamcast games on my not to old 4:3 TV that had support for NTSC but I sold it and bought an older 16:9 TV which has more inputs (and a much better picture and a load of other advantages, finally no more switching between N64 en Gamecube!) and doesn't support NTSC sad.gif

So the situation is :

I have an RGB SCART Input (will RGB work with an American Dreamcast? SCART is an European format and according to the wikipedia it isn't used anywhere else), an S-video input (I think S-video doesn't have any problems with NTSC/PAL but I would like an confirmation and I can't find any S-Video cables for the dreamcast sad.gif) and a bunch of composite inputs that are out of the question due NTSC/PAL problems.

So the best solution would be to find a S-video cable for the Dreamcast or a RGB video cable if American Dreamcasts support RGB scart. If that isn't possible due whatever reason I should buy an NTSC/PAL converter which I would like to avoid.

Thanks in advance!

I'm sorry to say that the quality will be even worse than the composite: It's (3:2 pulled-down) composite, modulated to RF and then will still have to go through the tuner to be demodulated.

I remember ages ago seeing a simple hardware mod you could do on an NTSC Dreamcast to force it to output a PAL signal. I thought I had it on my PC somewhere but I can't find the damn thing anywhere!  I can't find it on the net anymore either..

If I come across it, I will post it here.

Hey, don't say that. When running in VGA, the DC still offers the best PQ IMHO.

Using RGB SCART should bypass any problems you have displaying an NTSC signal through the other inputs.
Looks like there are a small number of NTSC Dreamcast games that have RGB removed. http://www.ntsc-uk.c...portHardwareFAQ
