In the Xbox Dashboard you can go to settings>video>video modes and set which ones you want it to show.  Your projector will only support up to 480p because the resolution is 854x480.  So check the 480p but uncheck 720p and 1080i.  Your projector is also widescreen native so you should set your projector to widescreen.  But I think that is about all the quality you can get.

Actually, his projector supports 720p and 1080i through Component and RGB HDTV. So turn those resolutions on as well.

As far as the cables go, there probably won't be any visable difference. The only difference will be in the quality of the cables.

First, you need to setup the resolutions in the XBox dashboard. After enabling them, hold L & R and click down both triggers. This should switch your dashboard into 480p. As for higher resolutions, that is dependent on the game. Most games support 480p but for a list of games and their resolutions, check here: http://www.hdtvarcade.com/xboxlist.htm.

The Avalaunch dashboard also can be set for 720p and 1080i (with few little bugs) and it can upscale DVD video to that resolution.

they disabled HD modes in PAL xbox's, so you need to switch to NTSC, THEN YOU WILL BE AMAZED.

hd is really a billion times better (even 480p) than the non HD formats 480i and 576i.

** A PAT ON THE BACK FOR THE THICK PERSON**
Righty i have found the video switcher in my apps ! lol set it to output in NTSC and bam ! the HD settings are up. brilliant the 480p is much much sharper than 576i but like i said up there .....when using NTSC the colours just look a bit washed out, when my xbox is in PAL mode the colours are so much more vibrant and full........is there no way i can have HD 480p in PAL ?? if not why not ?? why did m$ switch off this feature ? seams silly to me !

I'm not even going to start on the whole PAL/NTSC progressive output capabilities. The reasoning was that there is no dominant HDTV format in Europe and no HDTV customer base  grr.gif

Anyway, if you like progressive scan (and I'm guessing you do, cos I do too), you're gonna have to stick with NTSC washed-out colors and a somewhat diminished resolution. dry.gif

One other point: Don't enable the higher resolutions!
What happens then, is: You upscale everything to 720p or 1080i, and then the projector downscales it again to 480p, to be able to display it.
The absolute best picture you can have with the 4805 is 480p, which happens to be the projector's native resolution.
Of course if you actually don't notice any slight artifacts, blurring etc. its completely up to you.

Hi,

First I'd like to say thanks for all the info in this thread. I have the exact same setup with the 4805 and I'm also trying to get my high res running...

But I got some problem with getting the NTSC setting to stick. I can choose it in the settings in Avalaunch but after a restart or when I start XBMC I'm always back to PAL. Is there some other place/setting that need to be changed to NTSC?

You need to use an EEPROM video mode switcher like Enigmah.
If you have the option, make a backup of your EEPROM first, although I've never had a use for the backup...
I'm not sure if the Avalaunch setting is supposed to change the EEPROM setting.

Can I plug your brains a bit on this subject? I have the older X1 (actually its a IBM iLV300 but its identical bar name and colour) it works fine on 480p but if it tries to display 720 or 1080 the projector simply keeps resetting itself. I am connecting to the projector through a Dsub to component lead and using a powerplay hidef box. Anybody else had this problem?
