Surround Sound Using Computer Speakers
« on: August 25, 2005, 01:42:00 AM »

So I have a pair of Logitech 5.1 speakers, the ones with 3 mini-jacks. I looked around the board a little and the tuts and didnt see anything about it and was wondering.. is there any converter or way to make one to connect to those?

So far the only way Ive seen to get surround sound with a xbox stock would be with the Optical cable.. and to even get a system that utilize those is expensive. Why would I want to do that when I already have a nice set of 5.1 speakers? And the only only PC sound card Ive seen that has Optical in is $45.. and I already spent about that much on a nice Creative card.

Personally, I don't think they should even sell surround speakers that don't accept an optical digital input, however, seeing as they do.... rolleyes.gif

This was already discussed in this thread:

and this thread

And this was the solution:

I really like you now. biggrin.gif lol

Anyway.. Well, the speakers I was talking of are the current system for my PC.. I didnt think they made stand alone speakers with optical in, I might as well buy those seeing I will need them anyway since I dont want to disconnect my PC speakers everytime I want to play my XBox.

lol Im also kind of in the middle of.. no where right now. Im at my friends house till I can find my own apartment (and room mate) and a decent full time job to pay for it, Id like to buy a HD TV (www.newegg.com, something around 30 inch LCD. lol) and I guess I will just find a good set of 5.1-7.1 surround that support optical.

And what I really like about you? You actually posted links to the stuff instead of bitching about searching! blink.gif lol The search doesnt always help if all I get back is posts about using Search... Thanks for the help, I now know what setup to do.
