Seagates are nice because they come witha 5 year warranty and most Maxtors are 1 year.

i voted WD. in my experience they are the most reliable xbox drives. i had a seagate in there before and it wasn't lockable and was louder then my WD and slower. maxtors tend to overheat and will cause lockups and reading errors

I have a 120 maxtor in my box with no complaints and a 3 yr. old 80 WD in this computer that has just started sounding like a fuckin helecopter (I think the bitch is gonna die soon). So I just ordered a 200 seagate but haven't decided which one it's goin in yet.

Seagate is the best. WD is the loudest crap on the planet. Maxtor is my second choice.

But the poll forget the biggest brand; Hitachi (IBM)

ALL IBM hdd's are lockable; even the 2K250 series and others. No way that all seagates and Maxtor are loackable; it's a bit of a gamble to choose those.

Then also, in different tests (Anandtech, Tom's hardware) the Hitachi HDD's are faremost the fastest on the market. Sure, they are not alway the quiet ones like Seagate, but the new drives i hear also barely.
And last but least, IBM (Hitachi) are cheap.

The last year i've modded more then 50 xboxes, all with Hitachy (IBM). All kind of models, and they ALWAYS are lockable!

also wanted to make sure the 2mb/8mb cache size wont make a difference

I love my new seagate so far.

120gb 7200 rpm with 8 meg cache for $67 at newegg.I bought it refurbished but it still has the 5 year warranty and works great.

I've only ever had one Hitachi fail on me, that was a knackered drive that had been returned to Scan Computers as faulty, only for them to reseal the bag and sell it as new. Twats!

Apart from that one, they've all been fine. Pretty quiet, COOL RUNNING (no fan mod required), lockable and reliable.
Before that I used Samsung SpinPoint V60s. Again, cool and quiet, but EvolutionX lies about their temperature (200°C drive, anyone?)

my vote goes to seagate. I use a seagate, maxtor, and WD regularly, and seagate is definitely the quietest.
