Looks like SEAGATES have a higher MAX operating TEMP....
although I am still happy with my WD, but I do notice that my SEAGATE seems to run hotter anyways.

No way!! Seagate is better than Maxtor! Not sure about if Seagate is better than WD. I read PC mags and always look out for the test results on the hd's they test out. In April 2004 edition of PC user the WD got the top rating 9 out of 10 and Seagate was rated at 8 out of 10 and the Maxtor was a 7 out of 10. I had a 80GB Maxtor in my PC and it was louder than the Seagate.

but luckely I got a new one that runs now from end 2001.
And I got 2 seagate's: 10 gig in xbox(stock) that still works from april 2002 & one in an older pc that i screwed the motherboard from 2 moths ago..

I run a lot of Samsung drives and have NEVER had a problem with a single one. They run slightly cooler than the Seagates and they are even quieter!

Me too.  Samsung, all the way.  They're silent and reliable from my experience.

Seagate has the highest build quality but they also tend to cost a few bucks more.

I can't say much about HDDs, but I'll drop a bit, my PC has a Western Digital, now that thing is SO fuckin Loud, you can hear it seeking, also my XBOX has a Seagate, and it's extremely Quiet.

I found a not bad priced 160Gb HDD localy, it's a Cicero Maxtor 160GB 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive, witch is sold at Futureshop, only problem is that I don't know the Model Number, so I dunno if it's Lockable, I need Lockable as I use XBL(so I have a reason 2 boot back 2 the stock BIOS), it's $139 right now, and onsale till the 17th, I was gonna get a 250Gb, but instead I'm gonna get a 160Gb and then buy a DVD-Burner that supports DL DVD+R an Changing Booktype Settings

any1 know about this DVD-Burner and it's compatibility 2 change booktype settings?

Gonna have to go with the samsung for this,  quieter the the WD.  Cheaper then the seagates(very nice drives though), and I had a maxtor fail on me this year.  maxtors can be a little loud, but I found the "Hitachi feature tool" can quiet them way down with AAM.  When speed is the deciding factor, WDs or Hitachi.

Dont use 10000 rpm drives without cooling. Go for the 7200rpm and you should be fine. I drilled 1mm holes in my case over the side the hd sits and it noticeably lowered the HD temp without adding extra fans. and the holes are so small they are hard to see

I've fucked up a few myself, but that was for doing dumb things. Aside from the 2 that I fucked up (both of which maxtor replaced), never have I ever had one die on me, ever.

Seagates are good, and I can understand the loyalty some people have to that make, but you really cannot go wrong with Maxtor. They should be on the top of your list.
