The hard drive doesn't cause the system to crash, Most of the time it is how the system manages the memory that causes it to crash

He's right. However, Seagates and Maxtors are the most widely used hdd for pc/xbox applications.

Seagates are great for PCs, they're very quiet. For the Xbox I recommend Maxtors since they're easily lockable (all their 8mb cache ones are lockable from my experience), whilst with Seagates it seems ok upto about 160gb after which lockability can be questioned.

acutally, the statistics at http://xboxdrives.x-...m/?p=statistics gives a pretty good guide line for what brand people prefer.

I have used all three in different xboxes.  Never had a problem w/ any of them.  They all worked equally as well.  The reason I have used all three is because at the time, I bought the one that was on sale.  In my personal xbox I have a Maxtor but I have used Seagate and Western Digital in other peoples.

Nobody who actually uses Maxtors will put them down...they're great drives...I should know - I've built countless PCs with them for years and have never had even one go bad on me biggrin.gif

Then let me be the first... I've had several die on in my PC and in Xboxes.

...Same applies for WD.

On the other hand, I've not had a Seagate or Samsung die on me in the ~ 10 months I've been doing premods.

Luck of the draw?  Unlikely.  Seagates have been known to be one of the most solid drives on the market...
