Alright some my question is, wouldnt 720p look better then 1080i because progessive looks so much better and also what are the best looking games in vga or hdtv mode thanx. Hdtv list kinda old and sucky.

Also remember that all VGA-monitors support 640*480. For HDTV, most VGA-monitors support 480p (720*480), some 720p (1280*720) and only a VERY few 1080i (1920*1080).

720p is only interesting for Xbox Media Center. If you can stretch the image so it becomes 4:3, movies will be played in a higher resolution. The menu will look stretched, though. I have never seen 1080i on a VGA-monitor, but I think it looks like garbage (because of the low refresh rate). For movies, stick with 480p or 720p. For games... well... you are lucky if the games you like do support 720p. Most games support 480p, though. Look at the list anvil posted.

It can be personal opinion and depends a lot on your display device. Some people think 720p looks better, some think 1080i looks better.

hmm, so if I took a vga adapter and put it into lets say a hdtv tv. Would vga look better then the hdtv adapter cable for xbox?

Normally it would, but not in this case because there is no official VGA adapter cable. All of them are unnoficial and they just change the wiring configs, meaning you aren't getting a true vga picture.

For the Xbox360, though, VGA will look better than component because it is an official adapter and the console fully supports the vga connection.

You mean they're both analog. And yes, the difference is small.

my crappy old monitor supports all the resolutions, but 720p is a little shaky (can't tell in games, but can tell in xbmc). I cant remember if my 1080i image looked good or not, but for the most part 480p, unless you're on a really big monitor is fine for XBMC, and then only a few games support 720p, and even less 1080i.

So, its not really an issue (other programs like emus are displaying lowerquality graphics to begin with so 480p and 720p are fine for them too)

plus, on a side note: who really is going to take the time while playing to notice the difference. I mean, the game is in motion, your not 2 inches away from the screen, and i doubt any of our eyes are 20/20 even with glasses on. 480p is awesome, and 720p is even better, but just enjoy the stuff, whatever works for your setup should be fine.

The adapter says it can hook up to moniters. I dunno how this is possible tho? If it can I duno if it be hdtv singal or not. Could be just a cheap double scanline type.

It means displays when it says monitors. Remember, everything is a monitor, but if it has a tuner in it, we call it a tv.

Yes, HD and VGA aren't mutually exclusive. Case in point: X2VGA
I use it to run my XBOX on my monitor, and it looks crazy rad. You should see XBMX in 1080i, yaoza! In terms of games that run at 1080, I only have one, MX vs ATV, which looks drastically better in 1080i than in 720p. Go figure...

Homebrew VGA cable + gateway 16x9 LCD monitor + Dragons Lair 3D:

Going to the monitor's menu said input: 1920x1080, 60hz.

There was a LOT of artifacting on the screen though. Found what it was, though. The monitor itself didn't support that high of res, so it had to then downgrade the signal to it the screen. This process introduced a lot of lagthat was easily seen on the screen. Turning off 1080i in the ms dash (so DL3D then ran at 1280x720) fixed it.

So what was confusing me was that the monitor said the refresh rate was still 60hz, even in 1080i mode (which would have to be de-interlaced to 1080p). odd
