No Sound If Another Device Is Connected

basicly , I seem to notice the xbox makes teh sound stop if it's connected by splitter or such , even when off

I was wondering if it was normal , not that big a deal but is a bit annoying , beleive it onlys happens with my 1.6 , my 1.0 is on HD so I really never tested with it
