Hdtv - Can't Get The Settings W\component Cables?
« on: July 24, 2005, 04:28:00 PM »

I recently bought this component cable...

http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/product_info....-cable-for-xbox

and I have a 1.x (not 1.5-1.6) xbox with evox...and I gots a HDTV ready tv...

BUT I can't see the settings in ms dash or evox dash to change the hdtv...720p or higher.

Whats up? Why can I not get my hdtv?

P.S. I tried changing from pal to ntsc as I read this was important but it didn't help.

Look forward to some answers.
Thanks

Yes, you must change the console to NTSC, but I'm guessing you have used evox which won't help you. You need to use enigmah video switch disc to do the change, then you will see the options in the MS dashboard.

Hey - As I already mentioned, I tried changing to NTSC - and no joy. (I did this using the engimah convertor)

Any other possibilities?

Sounds like a faulty cable.  If you'd like to try to fix the cable, look for JaredC01's A/V guide.

I just want to make sure, you are tying to see the settings menu in the original MS dash right?

r u sure u ve changed it?check if you can still see the pal 60 option on video settings,or at your chip"s eeprom if it detects and outputs ntsc ,the ultimate test is to see if it displays black and white on a non pal ntsc tv,using the standard rca cables...else ,maybe the cable is faulty probably...

Thanks for all ur posts guys - much appreciated - I tried it again this morning, and it worked fine...I had it set to NTSC, and then in ms dash, up popped the new options.. 2 questions though...

1. Why does this only work in NTSC?
2. I think that my dvd images don't look so sharp with this on...seems to be more noise interference around objects...is this related to simulating ntsc?

Many thanks.

No. 1 is a bit of a pain to answer, but basically because of the way that the MS dash controls the video settings, MS thought it would be problematic to include an option to change back and forth between PAL and NTSC. They would be flooded by calls from people who could no longer see their displays.  In the US, many sets are not capable of displaying a PAL signal, and people like to play with settings they know nothing about. Sorry thats not a complete answer.

No. 2 You are watching PAL encoded DVDs that are encoded for 50hz/25fps with a resolution of 720x576, outputed as NTSC which is 720x480 and 60Hz/30fps. Its a missmatch.
My advice, use XBMC to playback DVD's, it should do a better job.
