DVD-A offers:  6-channel discrete surround @ up 24-bit 192 kHz

DTS:  data reduction (3:1), 20-bit dynamic range, and a sampling rate of 48 kHz

Dolby Digital:  data reduction at 13:1, has a 16-bit dynamic range, and a sampling rate of 48 kHz

Keep in mind though, that if the receiver was capable of decoding DVD-A, or SACD, you could always have digital stream passthrough from the source (xbox, universal player) to a compatible digital-in port of the amp -just like it happens with DD or DTS.

In theory yes, but according to what I read, fiber optic or coax digital audio do not have enough bandwidth for the raw DVD-A or SACD signal, so actually, no you couldn't do that and get the high resolution sound that these higher quality formats were created for.

Remember that your digital optical and coax digital audio connectors are designed to move data around 1.5Mbps for DTS.

Now, DVD-A and SACD were designed around 9.6Mbps data rate so you'll need to use FireWire Audio to move that much data.

So anyway, I will be able to dvd-a disc is that what you guys are saying?

No I'm saying you can't do any of this with the XBOX.  dry.gif

And for the record, your amp does support a 5.1 channel direct connection so if you do ever buy that SACD or DVD-A player, you'll be set.   beerchug.gif

Just thought I'd add in my recent discovery. As far as I can tell, xbox, or xbmc in paticular is unable to playback DTS cds. DVD-A does work, as someone pointed out through both DD and DTS.
