Hd Vs S-video Comparison With Pics
« on: July 16, 2005, 05:47:00 PM »

A bunch of people were asking for pics to compare the output from a HD signal (vga mod or normal component out), so here it is.

http://antibeat.host.sk/hdcompare/

note:  if the site says access denied, just refresh the page.

Hope this helps people, they're not the best pictures, but they give you an idea of the large difference.  These pics taken of video running on an 800x600 LCD digital projector.

Happy modding.

I used a normal xbox audio video cable and disassembled the plug then desoldered all of the wires.  Then i followed the tutorial on this site and on these forums which were very helpful, and used an LM1881 sync splitter circuit.  I used a 15 pin plug from an old pc video card instead of a monitor extension cable so i could solder all of the wires to these places.  I think hot glued the crap out of the cable, and put everything back together.  I also made a RCA plug to 3.5mm minijack audio adapter so i can hook pc speakers and a pc monitor to my xbox.

Thanks for all the people who helped me out with this from this forum.

I wanted to post these pics as a thank you to you guys, and also i've tried to help some others since you guys were so helpful to me.

Yeah, gotta love that quality improvement.  Your VGA adapter looks very...  personalized... hehe.  If anyone wants to see mine (I put it in the Advanced A/V pack), there's a link in my sig.

does personalized mean crappy?  hahaha, but seriously thanks jameson42 for all the help.

btw, where is the audio on that box, im not to familiar with the adv av pack, but it looks like you have component out, VGA and s-video, or do you have composite, s-video and vga?  that would be cool, and then the audio is the same for all.

good post, you can totaly tell the difference between the 2, but not to mock you im sure youve helped a tons of peeps out but if i take a few pics of svid on my crt in svid you wont see a huge difference between that and HD on a HD tv, if you switch between svid and component on an HD tv then you will see a big difference but if you play on a non HD crt on svid and component on an HD tv you really wont see that big of a difference as the pics posted show, honestly id rather watch dtv on my 32" crt in svid then then my HD dtv reciever on component, dont get me wrong, the actual HD channels look marvoulous but normal channels on component cables doesnt make a huge difference unless its on a crt, on a projection, it a whole nother story, i can totally tell the difference between 480i and 480p on my projection with xbox but against cable or satalite tv its a whole nother ball game

ill post sopme pics in the next couple of days between svid on a crt vs svid on a projection vs HD on a projection

leeloo do you have any other guide i`m interested on make that cable since i need to check if my ms hd pack is defective and i don`t get any other option on my country.

I'll post a guide on my website for exactly what i did.  There are several guides out there, but i found that i had to read a bunch and ask questions before i really got an understanding of what i wanted to do.  especially since some involved using the connections on the motherboard.
